Kasargod, Sep 3: In a tragic incident which occurred near Babbaryanakallu vented dam in A K G Nagar, Puttige in the district on Tuesday September 1, a coolie drowned and lost his life.
Jagadish (18) from Hassan district lost his life in this incident. On Tuesday afternoon, he had gone to the backwaters of the dam to take bath along with two of his friends. While Jagadish got dragged away due to the undercurrent, his two friends managed to somehow safely reach the banks.
All the three were residents of Naykapu near Kumble. It is gathered that besides working as coolies, they were skilled at catching birds like parrots. Firemen from the town, with the help of locals, launched rescue operation which went for long, before the body of the deceased was located and brought out of water.
A case of unnatural death was registered in Kumble police station.
