Forty injured in Mangalore Express derailment


Chennai, Sep 4 (IANS): Around forty people were injured when a train derailed in Tamil Nadu's Cuddalore district early Friday, an official said.

Six coaches of the the Mangalore Express got derailed near Poovanur railway station near Virudhachalam, 230 km from here.

Officials from the railways, police and district administration have visited the accident site, the official said.

The Mangalore-bound train later departed after detaching the derailed bogies and special buses for Trichy, Salem, were arranged to carry passengers who were not willing to continue the train journey.

The injured were being treated at the government hospital in Virudhachalam.

An official of education department travelling in the train complained that he had lost around Rs.150,000 official cash after the accident.
