Mangaluru, Sep 4: Skeletal remains of a young woman who went missing about a month ago were found among the bushes at Munchur in Suratkal police station limits on Friday September 4.

The deceased has been identified as Shwetha (24), and resident of Adyapady, Bajpe.

It is said that Shwetha had gone missing about a month ago, and a missing complaint was filed in Kavoor police station.

A working woman, Shwetha used to often visit her uncle's house at Chelar near Suratkal, sources said. Police sources said that she was last seen alive in Kulur a month ago.

Police sources also said that a bag was found near the skeletal remains, in which there were two mobile phones, id card and Aadhaar card, by which her identity could be established. A pink dupatta was found suspended from a tree, indicating possible suicide.

Shwetha was working for a counselling centre located at Kankanady in the city. She had stayed at the house of a relative at Kulur on the night of June 26. She had left home for work, but did not reach her office. It is said that the counselling centre staff called her over phone to know the reason for her absence, and she told them that she would be attending work that day. Thereafter, her cellphone remained switched off.

Kavoor police had thereafter, summoned Nitesh from Madhya village, with whom she was reportedly in love, to the police station, and let him go after questioning him. Shwetha, whose parents are not alive, lived with her sister at the house of relatives at Chelar.

Sniffer dogs, medical team, and forensic experts team visited the spot. The policemen said that samples from the skeletal remains would be subjected to medical examination. Once the report is received, they will conclude as to whether it was a case of suicide or murder, they added.

Suratkal police station house officer B Cheluvaraj, sub-inspector Kumareshwaran, and others are investigating the case.
