Udupi, Sep 5: “The Legislature, Executive, Judiciary, and the Press are an indivisible part of the society. Society can improve only when the journalists realize their social responsibility. Newspapers are necessary for both criticism and praise. Journalists should stress on substance, loyalty, and logic and support development,” said Vinay Kumar Sorake state minister for urban development.

He was speaking after inaugurating the newly formed Kaup Press Club and media dialogue at Kaup Vidyaniketan Educational Institute on Friday September 4, which included journalists from Kaup, Padubidri, Katpadi, and Shirva.

“It is my desire to mould the Kaup Press Club as a model in the state. The Press Club will be provided space in the government building initially. It will be provided government land later and helped to build its own building with government funds as well as my own contribution,” he said.

Manohar Prasad, news division head, Udayavani, Mangaluru, speaking on the occasion said, “Journalists should be like a mirror to the society. They should work understanding the sensitivity of issues.”

K P Acharya, convener, Kaup Vidyaniketan Educational Institutes, Rohini, Udupi district news officer, Jayakara Suvarna, president, Udupi District Working Journalists’
Association, conveyed their best wishes. Press Club treasurer Abdul Hameed was present.

Ramachandra Acharya, convener, Kaup Press Club, welcomed. Harish Kumar Hejmady, district association representative, gave the keynote address. Chief secretary Rakesh Kunjoor proposed the vote of thanks. Sports secretary Suresh Yermal compered the programme.
