Kasargod, Sep 5: "The central government stands committed to setting up medical college here. Honest and sincere efforts would be made towards making this happen," said union minister for law and justice D V Sadananda Gowda.

He was speaking after laying foundation stone for the building complex of the central university for housing eight study centres of the university at Periya in the district on Friday September 4. He stressed that the proposed top class medical college hospital will come up under the central university.

"The union government is always prepared to extend assistance and support for all the development programmes of the central university. The central government's main aim is to provide facility for getting high standard of education in the country. The university here will get transformed into an international level education hub. Prime Minister, Modi has announced about the added thrust on health conservation, treatment, cleanliness of public places, health preservation, treatment etc.
"Along with providing facility for higher education in health sector, we will begin employment-based courses, skill development scheme etc along with higher education. The central government's aims at ensuring high quality education to 50 percent of youngsters, and to see that they get recognition at national and international level," he said, and sought support and cooperation of everyone in achieving this goal.

Kerala Central University vice chancellor, Dr G Gopakumar, presided, Kerala minister for agriculture, K P Mohanan, local MP, P Karunakaran, Uduma MLA, K Kunhiraman, BJP state president, P Puralidharan, zilla panchayat president, P P Shyamaladevi, Kanhangad block panchayat president, A Krishnan, and Pullur-Periya gram panchayat president, C K Aravindakshan, addressed the gathering.

Acting registrar of the central university, Dr K C Baiju, welcomed, Reception committee convener, V Shashidharan, proposed vote of thanks. Thereafter, students presented different cultural programmes at the Periya campus of the central university.
