Mangaluru: Rowdyism in any form cannot be justified - K J George

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (JS)

Mangaluru, Sep 7: Home minister K J George on Monday September 7 said that rowdyism in any form cannot be justified and those who make provocative remarks to create law and order problems would be stringently dealt with.

He was speaking to reporters at the Circuit House here during his visit to the district on Monday. Earlier in the day, he inaugurated a police station and a fire station at Sullia, and then a traffic police station in Puttur.

Speaking to media persons K J George said that the police department is doing a good job and the police personnel are working well.

Asked about immoral rowdyism (moral policing) specially in reference to the recent incident at Attavar, the minister said, "There can be no justification for rowdyism in any form, moral or immormal. Firm action will be taken against those who take law into their hands, and if necessary they will be sent to other districts."

When a reporter asked if the government was not showing double standards in ignoring Prof K S Bhagwan's comments against Hinduism on the one hand and arresting Rama Sene chief Prasad Attavar over a Facebook post on the other, he said, "There is a difference between a defamatory statement and a provocative comment. When people make provocative comments threatening to kill someone, it leads to law and order problem. We will file suo motu cases against those who make provocative comments. It is like they are giving a call to create communal disturbance, and action will be taken against them.

"Whereas, for defamatory comments, action will be taken if someone files a complaint and FIR is registered," he added.

When asked about 12 cases from Dakshina Kannada pending with the CID, George said, "I will conduct a review meeting and ask a status report on these cases."

Regarding the murder of Prof M M Kalburgi in Dharwad recently, he said, "CID is investigating the case. We will write to the CBI to take up the case. We have no problem in CBI investigating, as two other similar cases have happened in Maharashtra (murders of rationalists Narendra Dabholkar and Govind Pansare). Nevertheless, our officers are confident of cracking this case."

Asked what steps the government was taking to curb drug menace particularly in Mangaluru, he said, "We have given powers to the SP to tackle the drug menace in the coastal belt. The internal security department is also looking into it and its officials have visited the district and done a review. ADGP Alok Kumar has also visited the district for this purpose."

Regarding steps to strengthen cyber crime police, he said, "We have strengthened the cyber crime department but there is shortage of staff. We have already increased honorary amount to Rs 325 in rural and Rs 400 in urban areas to home guards, and given them other allowances. We have asked the police department to recruit home guards on a temporary basis till new trained personnel are recruited."

District incharge minister Ramanath Rai, ADGP Alok Mohan, IGP (western range) Amrit Paul, deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim, superintendent of police Dr Sharanappa, police commissioner S Murugan and others were present.

Bantwal, Sep 7: Home minister K J George on Monday visited the Brahmarakutlu residence of KPCC secretary Mohammed Badruddin who recently passed away.

Speaking to reporters, George said, "Badruddin was a good leader and he worked tirelessly for the growth of the party. We are deeply hurt by his demise. Congress expresses sympathies to his family and stands by them.

"I cannot forget my association with Mohammed Badruddin, especially when we worked together for Chikkamagaluru constituency. I have come here with the district incharge minister Ramanath Rai to console the family of Badruddin on behalf of the party," George said.

Mr. Mohandas Kumar, we are Overseas Citizens of India, not considered as NRI like Indians working in the gulf, we have the same rights like you have, our citizenship is life long. We have all the right to say if our Politicians don't work for the people, than just giving lip service & lectures on rowdyism doesn't work. Regardless of which party.
    Have a lovely Day.

It is very easy to find fault - very easy to criticize but it is not very easy to identify the root cause of problems. The Government represented by The Home Minister K.J. George is in Mangalore not merely to make statements but set the stage to take remedial measures to control the situation. The Police Force under the control and supervision of eminent people like Mr. Paul, Mr. Murugan and Mr. Sharanappa are ding their best to maintain Law and order as they should. They have heard the statements made by the Home Minister and they will do their best to interpret the remedial measures in more tangible terms.

Dear SMR, I would like to ask some questions to you before we attack our useless HM!!!! Can our Police Dept curb cattle theft business in our region independently without any interference from our Politician when they are arresting culprit? Can they probe all the missing Hindu Girls from our region most of them fallen prey to youths from other community with their misguiding identity? Can we stop the business of conversion of lower caste Hindu community in particular? No….not at all….. Under present rule these thugs are not having any fear for law & order….then only one way out is….let loose the so called moral police so that they can curb these menace of communal forces to certain extend though they went far ahead sometime but do we have any other option?????

One correction Mr Nayak.... It is not Italian led congress. The correct official name is INDIAN NATIONAL CONGRESS. Why do you always make this mistake I wonder. I think being an Indian you take more interest in affairs of Italy rather than your own country.
If you are referring to Sonia Gandhi then let me remind you she has long back given up her Italian roots when she got married to Rajeev Gandhi and also further when she took a dip in the Ganga during the Kumbh Mela sometime in the past.

George saab is appreciating the police, for some extend I agree with him, but after bringing the situation under control legal procedure is not followed by the police on culprits with proper use of IPC section and further follow up in the court. Therefore the culprits are not properly punished. If we observe only 2 districts dk and udipi these elements of moral policing is active. May be because minority community like christian, Muslims jains are become very successful businessmen in Mangalure so that out of jealous this group of communal element targeting them. Home minister just calm down existing situation with help of the police, but what about future security of these minority community with hands of moral police. If these situation continues in city like Mangalure the effected people may react militantly,. then let us not call them terrorists.

Successive govt only given lip service to tackle IMMORAL POLICE in the coastal belt.Taking law in to own hand by particular group may lead to another group which may create danger to civilized society.A separate law could be enacted to root out menace of moral policing by any community group. The arrest of accused in the last incident by police in planned manner highly appreciable...However,that was done from the PARAMANU of HM under pressure from all qtrs. we understand HM's visit to DK to take stock of the situation is highly appreciable..
