Students beat college principal for 'misbehaving' with girls

Hubballi, Sep 9 (DHNS): Accusing their college principal of having misbehaved with girl students during an industrial tour to Goa, a group of students assaulted him, ransacked his chamber and smashed his new car on Tuesday.

Students picketed a prominent private college in the city, thrashed its principal, Anand M Waddin, broke flower pots on the campus, ransacked his chamber, damaged windowpanes of the college building, smashed flower pots on his car and then overturned it. They didn’t even spare a CCTV camera installed on the campus. Tension prevailed for some time until the police arrived at the spot and detained the principal.

They raised slogans against him when he was being taken out of the college.

The students later converged outside the police station and dispersed only after Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner Pandurang Rane assured them that the suspect would be arrested and suitable action taken against him.

Students, including 13 girls, were taken to an industrial tour to Goa from September 4 to 6. The principal is alleged to have misbehaved with girls then and even forced them to consume alcohol.

Police produced Waddin, along with two lecturers Gopal Biradar and Sherli Benn, who had accompanied the students to Goa, before the second JMFC court, which remanded them in police custody till September 19.

The director of the educational institution met the students and their parents on the college premises. He said the principal had been suspended with immediate effect, and promised to dismiss him after an enquiry.

we are in such a situation that nothing could be blindly accepted and concluded. Students blame principal and attack him. How could they attack principal just because of their conclusions. Whether right investigation is done. Or it could be like students take revenge on principal on some other subject or topic. It's easy now a days to put an harassment case on somebody and put them in trouble. so proper investigation should be done and then decide on the punishment for the principal. Meanwhile, students taking the law in to their hands, not acceptable.

In the court every body beleives right when comaplaints speaks first until accused start to question the pititioner. No schools sending their girls to trip without accompnying ladies teachers or lecturers. Even if the pricipal mis behaved this is up to what extent we cannot conclude unless police taken report from other teachers and students. If my neighbour done any wrong to me I cannot harm him & then lodge complaint. What studnent done here criminal and police need to take action.

This type of "Guru Vandana" or "Dakshina" should be opposed whatever the reason prompted this.
The police should file the cases against the students for taking law into their hands.
Without proper inquiry the police shouldn't have arrested either teachers or principal, can they give them back their honor if the accusations were proven to be false?
The students has the right to protest or file complaint, but certainly not manhandle their principal. It seems law & order has taken a back seat with radical elements or ideology taking over even education institutions.

'The principal is alleged to have misbehaved with girls then and even forced them to consume alcohol.'

Were these girls 12 year olds?

If their parent's were really considerate of their daughters safety then they should not have sent them on this out of state tour.

I assume there were more girls in their batch whose parent's opted not to send them.
