Bantwal: Video of teacher beating, abusing boy goes viral, complaint lodged

Daijiworld Media Network - Bantwal (JS)

Bantwal, Sep 9: A video in which a Veda teacher is seen to be beating and abusing a boy with a fractured arm has gone viral in WhatsApp and other social media.

Though the incident is said to have occured some days ago, a complaint was lodged in this regard in Vittal police station Wednesday September 9.

The complaint was filed by B K Sesappa, leader of Dalit Seva Samiti.

In the complaint, Sesappa has urged the Vittal police inspector to investigated and take strict action against Shyam Sunder Shastri who is seen beating and abusing the boy.

The details of the incident are not yet known, however, the video reportedly shows the teacher beating and abusing the boy at a Veda camp, asking if he was a 'Brahmana' or a 'Kshatriya'. Sources said that the boy got into some mischief for which he was punished.

A complaint has also been given to women and children welfare department.

The police have asked the complainant to bring more details and an FIR is yet to be registered.

No one has the right to abuse children, leave alone their own parents. Such teachers and parents should be prosecuted. If you cant fix students by your sweet words, then you are not fit to be in that profession.

How would one learn when he/she lives in fear. Indian education system is a mess, we may generate high quantity of engineers of low quality because many of them have become engineers because their neighbor was one.

A widwan (sanskrit teacher) must be SATIVIK. Then only he can understand and follow what is in Vedas. He must understand the situation, age and the condition of the student before going for manhandling. Manhandling itself is a crime more when it is against young kids/boys. If a Vidwan cannot understand the innocence and respect for humanity -he is to be called as rakshasa (demon) than Saraswati putra (vedic brahmin)

How can a teacher beat a child whose hand is already fractured. This guy should be thrown out of the padashala and he should also be beaten by public and police for his mistake. There are so many teachers like him and this will be lesson to all other teachers who behave like this mercilessly.

This is totally unacceptable. How can anyone beat a boy whose hands is already fractured. It is not that you alone got beatings from teacher. Almost everyone would have got beating at some point of time with some cane teacher. But this is not the time to beat a child. FIR is mandatory and give some blow for that Sastri also so that he will realise his mistake. When kids does mistake, teacher punishes but if the teacher himself does some mistake who will punish. Police should only punish.

Beating kids to correct by teachers, parents and elders are acceptable in our culture in India. It is normal in Islamic Madrasa but there is a limit.
The teachers should control their rage and considering this kid with broken hand is more disturbing. But the teachers and Usthads in Veda pada sala and in Madrasas respectively must be given some counseling for how to correct the kids.

Put a small bullock cart tied to his neck and let him pull that every day for one month in front of the school for a few hours to teach him and others a lesson.

Teacher, are you fit to be called a teacher? May be it is proper to call you a butcher. You are hitting and abusing a child who is much weaker than you. He is unable to oppose you. Have you imagined how much of mental torture you have given to that child. May be he is poor (have you taken the advantage of it) but he is a human being. Remember you have no right to hit or abuse your own child. Then how come you have committed such a heinous act, that too in public. This clearly shows your class/your dignity/your frustration/your ego. Avoid this and be a humane

From the language in the video, it seems that it is a Havyaka Brahmin Temple as women devotees are going in and out, and that Teacher is speaking Havyaka Kannada while beating the half naked student. Is it attached to the famous Ramachandrapur Matha? If yes, then abusing the students, whether boy or girl, is quite normal there.

Exactly such teachers are supposed to be taught a lesson by public I feel, when they dont understand that his students are still children.Afterall Boys are always more mischievous.and there is other method of correcting them than punishing them than what he did.Does this Boy dont wear any Shirt or let out because of injury?Anyway this teacher has gone to extreme methods.Previously it was allowed.but some teachers didnt know the where to end.We do remember last time in Daiji we read that one child in Bihar area or so dead because one teacher punished him extreme.Thank God now it is forbidden.Let children be children.Veda or Sanskrit ,they will learn when they want. But who has made Foto ?Hope it is not played ?Discriminating children is not good.Hope the Boy has not sustained injury.

Nor it is wise to blame brahmin ...coz majority of them are Good..also foot soldiers of RSS...i.e BD ..who harbors hate and indulge violence towards other community...majority of them doesn't belong to the caste which stands top in hierarchy...So there is no point in hating them...

In fact teacher is not asking the caste of the student. Student's caste is visible from the thread he wears. In fact in many parts of rural India the schooling system is so primitive that Brahmin students are scolded by teacher by using lower caste names. Calling a Brahmin student by lower caste is considered as a most effective form of scolding to the erring student. Manuvadi mentality still prevails among teachers of rural places.

These kind of incidences were common in school during our times. Each school had atleast one teacher with 'cane' reputation.
For me twice or thrice a month these kind of 'abusive' beatings were common. Had i complained at home, i was sure, my father would ask the reason and give his share too.
Probably thanks to all those canings, knocks on head and hits on knuckles made us responsible good citizens as we are today.
The later generation who enjoyed the 'no caning' law are now busy roaming around in Mangalore doing something called 'moral policing'!!

    Acchu,

Don't expect that, they won't. Reason well known,

By the way when a child was raped by a teach in madrasaa, did SDPI / PFI or other Muslim organizations raised their voice?

    Praveen,

Try to clean your own backyard.

In spite of its own loopholes/drawbacks and attacks from foreigners Hindu religion survived since centuries and will survive. We don't want any advise from fanatics.

The people did not like caste system already changed their relirion and suffering more than what they used to suffer. You must be one out of them. All religions are same in this matter.

Next comes money. Within the same caste/community/religion, the rich people will not touch/talk to poor people. Your comment should have been against the cruelty. But you opted another way shows clearly your cruel and henious mindset.

The converts are more happy and living a peaceful life. Don't try to hide the truth. For eg. You people have not spared graham stains and his entire family, I have commented just because of the right wing organization who are just behind minorities and are not concerned of the ill deeds within

Thank God there were no smartphones or other gadgets to record such incidents during those olden days!
In Milagres School, Mangalore, I knew a male teacher for English (higher secondary) used to be so rough and tough that he used slap the bad boys on the face. Headmaster with a cane (never breaks, flexible like rubber) and a lady teacher who used to beat with the foot ruler holding it sideways. Luckily, I never got such punishment, because I used be a quiet, well behaved student.
Still there were no issues like Teacher beating the students.
Now a days like: 'ili ponda pili bondu'

New trend - the veda schools. These religious schools (m d r s included), are wanting the children to learn the religion beyond their capacity. The elders do not know to practice the religious tenets, why punish the children?

I always say teacher punishing a student while caught doing mischief , yes, it's right as we used to get the same treatment when we were small and that's the main reason for us to be well settled and above that a good citizen in the society. It's true for all the people of our generation. Having said that, seeing the pictures here, it's clear that it was too much for that small boy , more over he was with fractured arms. Feeling pity seeing that small boy suffering so much with that giant teacher. "Somasundara Shastri" , you are gone...

It seems the teacher has no mercy. They boy has fracture in his hands and how come the teacher is beating him. Either the teacher should be dismissed from the school and such schools shuld be closed.
