Tiger cub spotted in Ranthambore

Jaipur, Sep 10 (IANS): A tiger cub was spotted by a tourist in Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan's Sawi Madhopur district and attempts to verify its presence are on, an official said on Thursday.

"One tiger cub was spotted by a tourist on Wednesday with a tigress in Balash area of the park. We are trying to confirm it through camera trap and are keeping a close watch in and around the area," a forest department official told IANS, adding that officially they do not have any pictures or other details to confirm it except for the version of the tourist.

"The confirmation of this is being done through camera traps which have been installed already for the purpose," official said.

Known for its large tiger population and at present home to around 55-60 tigers including cubs, Ranthambore National Park is 170 km from here. It was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1957 and it got the status of national park in 1980s.
