Mangaluru: Moral vigilance at mall - two taken into custody

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Sep 11: Police personnel attached to Bunder police station here have taken into custody two persons for their involvement in moral vigilance. They reportedly tried to thrash a youth from Kerala, Arjun, who had visited a mall in Hampankatta here with in the company of two girls on September 8. The arrests were made based on video footage in CCTV cameras in the mall.

The arrested accused are Muhammed Harris alias Mansoor from Bantwal, and Abdul Khader from Bajpe. Harris is said to be operating a massage chair business in the said mall.

It is learnt that Arjun had visited the mall along with two girls, one from his own community, and the other, who belonged to another community. A gang of youth had stopped him and questioned him, besides trying to beat him up. By then, youngsters from another community came together to stop the tension.

Bunder police, who arrived at the spot, had accompanied the youth and the two girls to the police station.

Good job by the police. Any kind of moral policing shouldn't be tolerated and the culprits shouldn't be spared no matter who they are and to which community they belong. All these people have the same sick and backward mindset. No one has the right to interfere in anyone's personal lives. If there is some sort of problem or a crime, only the police or the authorities should get involved. Period.

Moral policing by any one is wrong. It is unfortunate you resort to comparing. Any ways, if you are comparing the Attavar incident to this, then may I remind you that this boy was not stripped and tied to a pole and beaten up.
Only a sick mind like your's can ever think of comparing. What is wrong is wrong and should be condemned outright.
This has not received so much attention because he was not assaulted or humiliated like what happened in the Attavar case.

Moral vigilance and moral policing should be stopped by all means. There is a police force to ensure safety of young people and there is no need of a second corpse to help people.

If young people have that kind of time they can devote the same for better purposes.
