Pakistan army violates ceasefire: Official

Jammu, Sep 11 (IANS): Pakistan army again resorted to unprovoked firing at Indian positions on the Line of Control (LoC) on Friday, a day after chiefs of the paramilitary forces of the two countries agreed to respect the ceasefire agreement.

Defense spokesman Manish Mehta told IANS in winter capital Jammu: "Pakistan army violated ceasefire today (Friday) by resorting to unprovoked firing at our positions in Hamirpur sector."

"Pakistan firing started at 4 a.m. and continued till 5 a.m. They used small arms and automatics. Our troops effectively and appropriately responded to Pakistan firing," he said.

The ceasefire violation by Pakistan came a day after the chiefs Pakistan's Rangers and India's Border Security force agreed to ensure that the bilateral ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan is respected in letter and spirit.

Pakistan army has violated the ceasefire continuously for the last three days on the LoC in Poonch district.
