Nominate 100 women achievers on Facebook

New Delhi, Sep 11 (IANS): You can now nominate 100 women achievers who have contributed to community and nation building as a part of the women and child development ministry's 100 Women Initiative launched in collaboration with Facebook.

After the initiative was launched in July, the ministry has invited people to nominate on Facebook women for a special competition to reward 100 of them, in appreciation of their work, an official release said here on Friday.

Realizing the vast reach of social media through the use of internet and mobile telephony, the government has decided to reach out to its citizens directly through this initiative in collaboration with Facebook, the release said.

Indians across the country get inspired by positive and inspirational stories and "like" and "share" them widely. Often, positive stories go "viral", it said.

They can now nominate women achievers who are unsung heroes to thank them and tell them they matter to the nation, it added.

Nominations can be submitted till September 30, 2015 only through the Facebook page.

Voting will begin on November 7, 2015 on the top 200 entries as determined by a jury. Winners will be announced in December, 2015 and they will be invited to join a reception organized by the ministry around the Republic Day in January, 2016.
