Mangalore: Ashit M Prasad Takes Over as IGP of Western Range

Mangalore, Jul 4: “Communal harmony, intelligence and law and order in the western region of the State are the important areas to be given prominence.” said Ashit M Prasad, the new IGP of  Western Range.

After assuming charge as an IGP here at Mangalore on Wednesday July 4, he said that it is after 11 years he is returning to Mangalore. After he was transferred from Mangalore, he had worked at Delhi Intelligence Bureau for 9 years and another 2 years in Jammu and Kashmir, he informed.

Commenting on the question  on the Naxal problems in the Western Ghats, he said,  "I have the experience in dealing  with terrorists. Hence, naxal problems would be dealt with severely.” 

All efforts would be made to control rowdies within his jurisdiction. Illegal activities would  be eliminated. If necessary, special squads would  be formed. he assured.

Earlier, he assumed charge from Satishkumar, SP of Dakshina Kannada. H S Satyanarayana Rao, immediate past IGP of western region was transferred to Davanagere, who left Mangalore a few days ago after transferring the charge to the SP.

    Grateful and thanks to Ashik M. Prasad the new IG western range.  He will hopefully  minimize communal violence and all other related social problem. Bring Back Harmony and Brotherhood at Mangalore.

    I have known Mr. Ashish Prasad for the past many years as a very effiiinet and honest officer of the I.P.S. cadre. I am sure he will do a wonderful job in The Port city of Mangalore. My good wishes are with Mr. Prasad.

    I hope there will be communal harmony in Mangalore with the new IGP taking charge. The politically supported rowdies who are attacking peacefully living community will be dealt with Iron fist and bring communal harmony in Mangalore .

     I pray to Almighty god to give strength to police force to deal effectively and Sincerely without political pressure. Good wishes to IGP and police force. I hope days ahead will be seen with all community in Mangalore living in Peace.

    The transfer of power from the former IGP to SP in a hurry is due to the transfer of Kundapur SP and then the cancellation of the same due to influence from BJP MP/MLA's. This tells as how much influence the people who attacked Fr. Sylvester have in state level.
