Mangaluru: Poojary lambasts BJP for banning meat, challenges Modi to ban its export

Mangaluru, Sep 12: Senior Congress leader Janardhan Poojary on Saturday September 12 criticized the BJP-led NDA government at the centre for banning the sale of meat for some days in BJP-ruled states in view of the Jain festival of Paryushan.

Addressng a press meet at the district Congress office here, Poojary said, "BJP has banned meat in five states in the country in order to respect the sentiments of the Jain community. Jains are peace lovers. As far as I know, nowhere in Jain philosphy has it been said that meat should be banned. The BJP is using Jains to try and create communal violence.

"On the one hand PM Modi says we should give importance to unity, and on the other, BJP is targetting the minorities. One can clearly see a dual stand here. The country is not important for BJP - are they patriotic at all?" he questioned.

"India is the biggest exporter of beef in the world, and Gujarat leads in beef export. If meat export is banned the foreign exchange will go down. Being Prime Minister, Modi did not ban meat export. Will the union government ban meat in Goa? The Modi government has no right to decide what people should eat or should not."

"If you (Modi) have courage, ban meat export," challenged Poojary, adding, "The economy of Gujarat is running because of meat export. If meat export is banned, India will become pauper."

He also said that when Congress was in power at the centre, economic stability of the country had improved.

Condemning state BJP's 'Raita Chaitanya Yatre' over farmer suicides, Poojary said, "135 taluks in the state have been hit by drought and there is power shortage also. BJP is saying Karnataka has not demanded power from the centre - this is an utter lie. All MPs from Karnataka should speak out in the parliament on this issue."

He also informed that during Dasara, he would hold Brahmakalashotsava to pray for rain in the state. "All minister should perform prayers for rain," he added.

On the protest against Yettinahole project, he made a veiled reference to D V Sadananda Gowda and Veerappa Moily and said, "Two former CMs should apologise to the people of DK for their mistake. They do not have common sense. When there is no rain in DK district, how can we give water to other districts?"

He also criticized health minister U T Khader for his stand on the issue and said, ""Khader should think before speaking. He says he will call experts to answer questions on Yettinahole project. When he cannot stop the work, why is he calling experts to the district?

Asked if he would join the protests to be held on September 15 and September 19 against the project, Poojary said, "I will not join the protest as people do not want me. They made me sit at home by not voting for me. But two former CMs (Sadananda Gowda and Veerappa Moily) should support the protest.

"The protest should be peaceful, without putting people to inconvenience. No one should suffer and no one should take law into one's hands," he appealed.

Mr. Poojari you have already challenged Modi to contest against you and people of Mangalore already shown you the position. Read the news in detail, this ban is imposed only for eight days on behalf of Jain festival. I don't think Indian economy is depending completely on meat export, that's why we have make in India program in place to help the export business as well.

The jain community is peace loving people.Simply donot drag community name for the political gain. Plant also grow and die. We give food and water for yielding purpose. Are we going to ban vegetables also. There are accidents, suicide and murders taking place. Will the government ban/stop these things. Is there any intention of the government to take livelihood of the people on the basis of caste, religion etc by banning certain things.will the government ban fishing also.
what is the achievement in baning for a limited period. Will the government ban things which some religion, caste, association does not like. The government can stop growing these instead of banning. There are things which government is required to ban that will improve the life of the society.Let government concentrate on those things. The banning supply of food will cause food problems

    J. Pujariji - do you know that Amit Shah is a Gujarati Jain, and it is his brain which is working behind banning of meat during fasting of his community? Gautam Adani of Adani group is also a Jain. His hand is also there behind this ban of meat sale in five BJP ruled states. Luckily Karnataka is not ruled by BJP, otherwise even in karnataka they would have banned meat sale.
Now UPCL of Padubidri is also owned by Adani Group. So find out whether in the employees Canteen of UPCL non-veg is banned after the takeover of UPCL by Adani from Lanco.

Jains are even supposed to respect ants and should not trample ants while walking and should not kill mosquitoes. Then how the BJP govts are allowing sale of Chicken meat and fish during this upavasa? These are the questions asked by Mumbai High court yesterday based on PIL against banning of mutton/lamb only.

Never in the history of any democratic country, we could see a Government like the current BJP Government ruling from New Delhi and in other States. Total paradox and pure political insanity.

They are playing with food, killing people and destroying millions of people their livelihood. Now, is there any excuse to address India as an animal kingdom?

The people of India can't eat meat but exporting millions of tons for other people to eat.

If this BJP led Governments are not dismantled, India will be faced with very serious disorder.

The BJP's main goals were playing with religion and food. What a great accomplishment?

I don't recollect that since it was not a news in the national and international headlines. If they did, it was absolutely wrong.

It is up to every individual to worship the God of their choice or no worship of any God likewise the choice of eating food. When the politicians are trying to impose both of them upon the people of any country, especially in a democratic country, that is pure autocracy and a prelude to anarchy.

Do you have any idea, if you are running a small or big business selling meat and that is shut of for a few days, your business will go upside down very vast. Who will suffer, you and your family will suffer.

The mindless and self-centered politicians will not feel anything but they may get some more votes in their pockets from the brainwashed gullible electorate.

So, now BJP is trying blindly what the Congress did. That is a compliment for the Congress party.

Those who don't want to eat pork meat let them refrain from it and don't eat.

Those who don't want to eat cow meat let them refrain from it and don't eat.

Those who wanted to eat both the pork meat and cow meat let them eat it and have it plentifully.

However kindly don't impose your beliefs and religion upon both the Beef meat and Pork meat eaters.

Why we the Indian nationals are banned to eat Indian meat and only the Foreign National's who are not Indian nationals allowed eating Indian cow and bovine meat. '
