Bengaluru: Catholic bishops, clerics condemn KRV chief's 'provocative' speech

From Our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Sep 12: Catholic Bishops of different Dioceses in Karnataka, Secretaries and Joint Secretaries of the Karnataka Regional Pastoral Commissions, who held their meeting at the Karnataka Regional Pastoral Centre in Bengaluru this week, have strongly condemned the "derogatory, defamatory and inflammatory speech" made by Karnataka Rakshana Vedike’s Narayana Gowda against Christian beliefs, particularly the Archbishop of Bangalore Dr Bernard Moras.

The Catholics Bishops of different Dioceses in Karnataka, Secretaries and Joint Secretaries of the Karnataka Regional Pastoral Commissions, have in an unanimous resolution, took strong exception to KRV chief’s recent "provocative" speech at the public protest rally organised by him and Kannada activists and said it had hurt the sentiments of the entire Catholic community.

They have strongly urged the State Government and other civil authorities "to initiate appropriate penal action against him (KRV chief) immediately for his life threatening and provocative speech."

The objectionable and provocative speech, the resolution said, had "spread religious hatred and violence as it a direct attack on the religious head of the Catholic community in Karnataka."

"The entire Catholic community condemns the provocative speech and seeks an unconditional apology from Narayana Gowda," the resolution demanded.

The Catholics Bishops of different Dioceses in Karnataka, Secretaries and Joint Secretaries of the Karnataka Regional Pastoral Commissions, in their resolution that has been circulated to the media, have also condemned the "inappropriate, unbecoming and scandalous behaviour of the Catholic priests – Frs Chalakere Chowrappa Selvaraj (Chasara), A Thomas from Bangalore Archdiocese and Frs David Anthonappa and C Anthonyraj from Chikmagalur Diocese and other priests, who were present at the rally and applauded the derogatory remarks made against the Archbishop."

"These priests have grossly violated their promise of respect and obedience and have publicly disowned their religious Head," the resolution said demanding an unconditional apology from the priests concerned.

It has also demanded that the respective Bishops must initiate Canonical investigation leading to appropriate penal action.

KRV will defintely stand by pro-kannada catholic priests.

    That is natural and expected.

They are supporting pro-kannada catholics, that shows they are not against anti-christian, they are just against anti-kannada or anti-local bias.

KRV is bunch of job less goons roaming in around Bangalore city. There is no clear cut goals in their life. These aim less kannada priests are joined their hands with such type of organization to malign the catholic religion. but please remember, Christianity - catholic history is older than any other religion. They cannot do anything to its flow.

It is unfortunate that there are such a deep and vitriolic divisions within the Catholic community in Karnataka. Each side condemning the other will only make things worth. It is necessary for totally neutral persons from the two groups to get together and find a way to heal the rift amicably. There is no doubt that the leadership is ultimately and always responsible for the state of affairs among Catholics in the state. Passing on the buck from one side to the other is not the solution.

This krv is some timepass org and want to stay in the news somehow.. just ignore.

But what amuses me is the way some people respond so differently. When a junk movie like pk has all kinds of offensive and mocking of lord shiva, you people lecture saying that it is freedom of expression and NO ban. At the same time when movie like vishwaroopam or puthraman (on nuns) which are not all that offeiive are banned and so much protest. Even AR rehman also is facing problem for some music. Why? Also if someone says urinate on our idols some wistle with crackers… but now anguish on these statements of some Krv? If this is not double standards what else is? lets learn to respect others feeling and stop ridiculing.. btw, Indians have been provoked for centuries and we have pardoned all... it is only these few decades after TV and facebook that people feel offended more... that's all

Dear Friends, KRV is a group that wants to be in limelight. Contribution to save this state is Zero. Let me give you one example. Our previous BBMP commissioner in the year 2008- 2010 was Bharath Lal Meena who had spent a lot of money to beautify the streets by getting the public walls painted in tax payers money. Instead of supporting this I could see this same KRV group sticking posters on these painted walls and spoiling the beauty of these paintings and disfiguring public places. where is the respect shown by this KRV group towards the state.Even pictures of Gods were not spared. They only want to show the world that they are patriotic and others are not. These people have no respect for religion nor the state. Only fit to give some speeches in public.

Who are you to talk about any other religion. Speak about what you believe and how it helped you.
Daily we hear only hatred towards other religions who are not bothered about any other religion but always together.
Mr. Gowda, get down to the needy and poor people in the villages or go and meet the farmers and try to solve their serious problems. God will definitely bless you.

freedom of expression is what we are expressing on the comments section here like in Daiji..it is personal ,we all who write comments represent only US..but when we say this on behalf of one organization or community or on a stage then it means that along with us we want the members or listeners to follow and act on our views...Now that is trying to get masses to follow my personal views..which can lead to violence or mob actions ...let the freedom be personal not to instigate..leaders...news papers...T.V channels have collective responsibility when they address masses...

When PM can go to Bihar, Karnataka, Bengal etc. and make statements about DNA etc. whether it be for campaigning or whatever at that time why you don't complain saying it is a state issue and PM's involvement should not be there ? Only when there is some problem then you dont want Modi to get the blame. Where there are issues that are of national importance affecting communal harmony anywhere in the country the PM must step in and make a statement to keep extremists in check.

Modi only seems concerned about the controversy uttering the word 'Om' will create but has no concern about things said against religious minorities.
Extremist elements like these are emboldened to make such derogatory statements against religious minorities only because the government at the centre led by you know who turns a blind eye to such persons and has a very lenient attitude towards them.
They know they will escape unpunished and that is why they make such utterances.
This attitude will only invite heaven's curses for the nation.

We shouldn't take law in hands for there is a Govt to take course of the law.

The recent trend in right wing/fanatic mindset individuals belong to like minded groups/institutions/ organizations etc., in their talks/behaviour are towards re-defining & to embed Hatredness among fellow Hindus for reasons better known to them. Which is against Hindu tenets - "Sarva Dharma Samabhava & Ahimsa paramo dharma"

Without prejudice, ultimately... such hatred mindset today may be mooted against peace loving Minority community but sooner than later such hatred mindset for surely back bite among themselves & their own family members (it is a universally known uncontrollable human tendency).

One small observation .., these kind of hatredness even reflect in their body language during the prime time Hindustani TV debates..., I may be wrong but psychologists & mind readers can take note of & vouch for correctness in my view.

He is trying to make a name for himself and may be eying some big post under Mr. Modi's Cabinet through throwing mud at the Christians and especially at the Catholic Church.

None of these big mouth motors have no idea that they will reap from where they sow.

What happened to Sri. Morarji Desai who was graduated from the Wilson College in Mumbai and became an ardent anti-Christian, and tried to play a dirty game along with a radical anti-Christian politician O.P.Thayagi, their political flight was crashed overnight.

IT IS WRONG TO SAY THAT THE ENTIRE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY IS CONDEMNING Mr. GOWDA'S VIEWS UNLESS THE PERSON MAKING SUCH STATEMENT HAS TALKED AND TAKEN APPROVAL OF ALL THE CATHOLICS IN THE STATE.
