Udupi, Sep 13: Udupi district superintendent of police Annamalai held a meeting with the public at Jagannatha auditorium on Sunday September 13 in order to brief them about the celebration of Ganeshotsava festival and the rules to be followed.

The Ganeshotsava celebration starts from September 17 and will end on October 8. 406 Ganapathi idols will be installed in three taluks of Kundapur, Udupi and Karkal. Bakrid festival falls on September 24. 403 Ganapathi immersions will be performed before Bakrid and remaining three immersions will take place later.

SP Annamalai said "Mike noise should not be disturbing the public and service institutions. The cultural programmes such as orchestra, dancing and other entertaining programmes should end by 10 pm. Committees should not carry out unnecessary processions like bike rally, gym sticks etc. There will be relaxation in norms if there is any valid reason. If any person tries to create tension among public during the celebrations, then the police will take stern measures,"

Speaking about illegal animal trafficking, Annamalai said "Animal smuggling is an offense and the department will start the check post operation in this month to keep an eye on illegal animal trafficking."

The rules to be followed during the festival celebrations are as follows:

The pendals should be installed away from the service roads with proper local police permission.

There should be enough lighting facilities in public places.

Committee volunteers should wear badges or uniform cloths.

Two numbers of security persons should stay at the every pendal at night.

The kitchen should remain away from the pendals.

Every pendal should have fire extinguisher as safety measure.

There will be alcohol ban on the immersion day.

Some people suggested that fancy dress people should be monitored at night and three fire brigades should be kept ready at Udupi centre in case of emergency.

SP Annamalai assured the public that, the police will provide all necessary security measures to keep the celebrations peaceful and harmonious.

Other senior police officers including ASP Santhosh Kumar were present at the meeting.

Its good to see SP sir to have meetings, we could see lots of difference in past one year in around UDUPI . I would also request Udupi police to have such regular meetings with all community leaders every month just to asses the situations . it build confidence withing communities . since most of our elected representatives are just politically motivated

It would have cleared the air if time limit to burst crackers and light other fireworks in the night was specified. Crackers are bust even after 10:30 PM lasting beyond 1.00 AM without caring for existing orders. If one complains to the police he turns out to be bad boy!
