Bengaluru: CM gets unusual gift of tobacco sachets in thousands

Daijiworld Media Network-Bengaluru (RJP)

Bengaluru, Sep 14 : Month of September has been a gift month for chief minister Siddaramaiah. This will continue till January next year, it is learnt. Unfortunately for him, they are not the gifts sent with love, but the gifts sent with a demand.

With a demand that they want a ban on chewing tobacco, sold with pan masala, the students from Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Hassan and Mandya districts have been sending tobacco sachets to the chief minister's office. So far the students have sent almost 5,000 tobacco sachets by post with an aim to despatch one lac sachets before January next year.

This is one of the many activities being undertaken by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), as part of its nationwide campaign called 'Students Against Drug’. Students from 26 colleges have been participating in this campaign.

Tobacco sachets will also be sent to the prime minister’s office, the students revealed. Students have also sent 25,000 postcards to the chief minister’s office with the same demand to ban tobacco. This will also continue till January next year.

Student leaders said that chewing tobacco was available in sachets which cost Rs 5. With an additional one rupee, one can get separate chewing tobacco pack with the pan masala these days. "A ban on gutka is not enough." they said.

More than 10 lac deaths take place in India due to the consumption of tobacco.

Of all the people who suffered a Stroke in May 16 th 2014 some of them are slowly recovering and coming into terms with reality but I was wondering why a "couple" of them from Mumbai dint recover.

Only later I rrealised they had gone through another stroke in October or November or so last year that it's not easy for them to recover from Modiphhobia. We can only pray for them and wish for their fast recovery. In the mean time stock of Eno and Burnol would help them at times in the process. Just advising.

    Declan,

It hurts no?. Tell me where i made personal attack? I just highlighted your hypocrisy. If questioning you about your hypocrisy is personal attack, then i don't know what is there between your ears.
    Declan,

When a person making personal attacks on others, should have some courage to accept the criticism also. Otherwise they are called as cowards. Do you think you are doing any social service in DW. Like others you are also doing the same thing spitting venom against the party/persons you hate.

    Declan,

Calling a person chaddi, sanghi just for questioning your hypocrisy is not personal attack what? Here lies problem with you pseudos. If anyone questions your hypocrisy you people call that person sanghi, chaddi, etc. Frankly speaking I don't have any soft corners towards these anti social elements. In my opinion they are not the representatives of my community. Give me one example in DW where I praised these elements. That is the difference between you andh bhakt and me.

BJP governments are only concerned about banning beef but dont care about 'health concerns' of the citizens. Why is Tobacco not banned in all BJP ruled states too ? or for that matter all over India ? Why not have a central legislation ?
If people say that banning tobacco is not possible as it will affect the livelihood of farmers growing it. What about the livelihood of thousands working in the meat industry ??? Should they also commit suicide now ???

The "BAN" will effect farmers who are growing Tobacco, Arecanut etc. After all the Govt. is not force feeding it. The narcotics are banned all over the world but still the trading on those items going on. Therefore the BAN is not the answer at all. We need to impliment the existing laws in full force.

We must appreciate the awareness created by ABVP. Instead of CM they should have sent this to BDO, DC and to the SHO.

    Declan,

True. The ban should come from the center so that there will be no production of Pan Masala in the entire nation. Its appears to be a trend to chew Pan Masala in place of the regular paan made out of betel leave/nut but people don't know the danger in disguise. We don't know how many of those Paan-malasa users are TB patients sowing seeds of this disease wherever they go.

Moreover its environmental hazard too, with tiny sachets discarded all over on the ground. We need to wake up and start protesting with the well-being of our society in mind - not political malign.

Sending sachets to Modi is enough. It extends to all India. Why sending them separately to Siddu ? And why is the headlines of this report referring to CM Siddu only and not Modi ???
Do I need to read it more completely now ???????
Is there not an intention to malign Siddu and his govt ???
On another note - Voice of Truth should not be s e l e c t i v e. Truth should be complete i.e. the whole truth not partial where it suits ones convenience !!!

Read the 'title' of the report and the manner the article has been written which shows 'special' affection to CM Siddu but the article does not give the same special affection to Modi.
