Tokyo, Sep 14 (IANS): Tokyo shares ended sharply lower on Monday on poor performances in China's stock markets.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average tumbled 298.52 points (1.63 percent) from Friday at 17,965.70, Xinhua news agency reported.
The broader Topix index of all first section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 17.82 points (1.20 percent) to 1,462.41.
Decliners were led by information and communication, mining and insurance issues.
The turnover was about 2,055.4 billion yen (about $17.08 billion).
