'Respect' Schengen rules, says France

Paris, Sep 14 (IANS): French Interior minister Bernard Cazeneuve has called for "scrupulous respect by each country of the EU of the Schengen rules", an official statement said.

Cazeneuve's remarks on Sunday came after Germany decided to temporarily reinstate controls at its borders with Austria due to the large influx of people in need of protection, reported Xinhua news agency.

"It is lack of compliance that Germany has decided to temporarily re-establish its border controls", said the press release of French Interior Ministry.

France also confirmed to receive 24,000 asylum seekers who need protection, including the 6,275 asylum seekers that already arrived in France.

Besides, France said it was ready to receive urgently on its territory 1,000 Syrian and Iraqi asylum seekers at the request of Germany.
