Mangaluru, Sep 14: District in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai on Monday September 14 laid the foundation stone for a fancy entrance gate for Kadri Park here.

The entrance gate will come up at an estimated cost of Rs 29 lac from J R Lobo's MLA fund.

Addressing District in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai, "The Kadri Park is the city's centre of attraction. A project has been initiated to give a facelift to the park. Rs 5 crore has already been sanctioned and the park will soon become much more enjoyable."

Speaking on the occasion MLA J R Lobo said, "We have already prepared the blueprint for the musical fountain and tender process is under way. Today foundation stone was laid for the entrance gate of Kadri Park, and outside the park there will be many developemental works initiated so that people can spend their evenings in a better way. Many developmental works will be initiated inside the park under the CSR fund. The Kadri Park has to be the best park in the city and funds have already been released and works will commence from tomorrow (Tuesday September 15).

"The long-awaited children's toy train work will commence soon. We have already released Rs 40 lac and we are awaiting another Rs 11 lac from the MCC. We are also waiting for work on the tracks to complete," he added.

    Good gesture by Mr Lobo...

    however my in my personal opinion,the following could have been done
    1. Increase the length of the joggers track and cover / light it to make it all weather..
    2. as somebody else said provide for paid public toilets
    3. have nicely done Kiosks auctioned for road side vending
    4. have a governing body for the park with corporate and govt members in the admin body.
    5. invite suggestions for improvement from park users and public at large

    Hope Daiji will convey the readers feelings to M/s Lobo and Rai.

    I agree with you.
    People (young to elderly) enjoy such facilities in Kuwait for leisure, brisk walk, jogging and relaxation and such activities, give us mental relation and provide physical fitness.
    In Mangalore you could hardly find a footpath or walk ways to take a brisk walk. Only safest place is public parks. Let people take advantage of the facilities and learn to develop good habits rather than criticizing each and everything.

    Whatever the public says that is their freedom. Developing Kadri park is a good initiative and once the entrance gate is completed the people will appreciate. In every country the park gate is beautifully designed and built. As far as dancing fountain is concerned they should first develop the road outside and provide basic facilities within the park before starting this project

    I have been seeing this news of Kadri park for so much time now
    1. There was plan to make a musical fountain- Nothing done
    2. There was plan to make cycling track in adjacent deer park- Nothing done
    3. There was news that some lakhs invested for facelift - Nothing done

    The park is still in the same state and some areas stink. A part of it does not have even a proper walkable path (towards the highway)

    Only I can see these dongi ministers visiting every time and giving promises and cutting ribbons and their foolish supporters cheering.

    Good job...
    Clean, neat & attractive entrance will definitely pull attention of passerby & increase footfall.

    Parks must be attractive and safe, and have a sufficient diversity of amenities and features to meet the needs of people with multiple different interests.
    > Parks provide people with contact with nature, known to confer certain health benefits and enhance well-being.

    > Physical activity opportunities in parks help to increase fitness and reduce obesity.

    > Cities need to provide all types of parks, to provide their various citizen groups with a range of health benefits.

    Hence, not only entrance, develop inside with Gymnasium, skating tracks, swimming pool, Kabana, Tennis court, small small huts for family relaxation (at the corners) & above all, CCTV cameras & security.

    Hope to see a amazing world class park at Kadri soon.

    Yes, when there is no water to drink we can go out and appreciate the beauty of the gate.
    Yes, when there are no clean toilets in the park, we can still appreciate the beauty of the gate.
    Yes, no proper lights in the park, we can still think how beautiful the gate looks in the dark.
    29 lakhs is nothing, give them a chance and they will make this also a 12000 crore project.

    I think this is something similar. it will be there-yet not there.
    Rs 29 lakhs will be spent...but will not be visible at all....something like that!
    About the Tantri's or Bhat's 'Designer Robes' as Langools pointed out even rogues roam around in such robes! it is therefore difficult to distinguish between
    a bhat, rogue and a politician...
    They paint themselves with the same...errr..dress in the same vein....

    Whatever written by the regular walker is so true and apt. I am also a regular walker in Kadri park. just add to him that being a lady, 1. we should have separate toilet 2. There was a FM radio which was working, now days no FM too, listen some music and some news when we walk will be good. 3. Train toy for the children 4. water facilities for the drinking purpose. 5. Water facilities for the basic needs Eg. Toilet and watering to gardens on summer days.
    I don't says gate is not important, simple gate is enough not with 29 lacks rupees only for the fancy gate. MLA is doing really good job, Park is very important, to sit and relax in the evening and these parks attracts even tourists (How we go out of Mangalore on holidays and search for the park to sit and to children to play. Therefore improving the Park with basic necessities are the sign of improving and beautiful Mangalore.

    I have been using Kadri park for my morning walk for the past 20 years...over the years lot of changes have taken place in the park, walking way is improved by laying interlocks, regular trimming the wild grass, fencing all around are welcome change but most important deficiencies are not addressed
    1. There are no toilets inside the park. One at the outside corner of the park is not used by the people who come for walk or exercises. It is a pity that many people answer the nature's call in the open behind the bushes. There is urgent need of wash rooms for men and women separately inside the park with water facility. Let these be paid toilets, but they are needed at a proper place.
    2. There are pipelines laid, sprinklers attached, re-laid(now you can see new water pipes are again laid digging the park) but there is no water. I have been watching this for the past 20 years. Moment the rain stops plants dry and park looks like a desert.
    3. There are no proper lights. Many a times the lights are not switched on. If you go early in the morning half of the park is dark. The maintaining men adamantly reply that walkers should come after 6am and not before that.At 6 am lights are switched off!
    Hope these issues, the basic amenities are addressed before laying dancing fountain. I wonder, there is no water now, from where water will come to dance with the dancing fountain....

    No money to finish the jobs started already but got money for entrance to park. Now scam ridden advertisement company can Milk MCC and install Hoardings at the entrance to Park. With MLA big show started the Mallikatta to Nanthoor new 4 lane road but stopped near Jimmy's Capitol building to kill the bikers.
    `````````````````````````````````Then started with big acting show of MLA and Corporator with smiling photo,new road between Mallikatta and Bendoor. Stopped with death trap near Kadri Neuro Center.
    There is no money to finish Bejai Market. We are supposed to be Smart City by dumb Engineers where Fish is sold by main Bejai Road where little Children walk on middle of the road. I do not think it took that long for King to build Taj Mahal in Agra, but it is taking longer to build Bejai Market for MCC.
    This is all preparations for next election and to swindle the Public. City can't even do simple things for Public but they are spending money for Musical Fountain. May be they should build another burial ground inside Park for those who die,due to bad roads in the City. Corruption at best.
