Mangaluru: Man who stabbed auto driver at Market Road arrested

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Sep 15: A two-wheeler rider, who has been accused of stabbing and injuring an auto rickshaw driver, Gopalkrishna Shetty (48) near Roopavani Theatre at Market Road here, has been nabbed.

Shetty, who hails from Panjimogaru here, had objected to Puneet Salian (24) from Devantagudde in Kavoor Marakada, the accused, for entering one-way street in his motor bike.

The arrest was made by Bunder police station here. The accused was produced in the court on Monday September 14 and remanded in judicial custody.

At around 2.30 pm on Sunday, Puneet had driven his motor bike through no-entry street, and after he was confronted by Shetty, he had fled after stabbing and injuring Shetty. When running away, Puneet had left behind his two-wheeler, on the basis of which the police could find out his whereabouts. The police had formed two teams to find out the culprit in this case, led by inspector, Shantaram.

Puneet is a carpenter by profession. It is said that after verbal altercation between him and Shetty, Puneet went away, but returned after ten minutes, to resume the quarrel with the auto rickshaw driver. He had then fled after stabbing Shetty with a small knife accompanying his key bunch, injuring the auto driver in the abdomen region.

Puneet told the police during questioning that he chose to stab the auto driver, as he had turned angry at having been publicly derided and insulted. In the meanwhile, Gopalkrishna Shetty is recovering in a private hospital here.

Went through all the comments.Very interesting. All that I could understand from the articles appeared is, A rickshaw driver tried to caution a biker on wrong entry. The young biker, felt insulted(Egoism) and stabbed the auto driver with anger. The biker committed mistakes over mistakes. Had he respected the auto driver , he would have saved a lot. The auto driver for his Goodwill, besides sufferings may get due rewards .
Once when I was going in my two wheeler an Auto driver went ahead of me ,stopped the auto and said "Madame, helmet hakikolli polisariddare". I obeyed.Once when I was trying to take a wrong U turn, auto driver who was at the spot said "turn maadabedi polisariddare" I ignored the auto driver and just a few yards ahead a cop stopped me and put a penalty of Rs 200/-So the auto drivers tell out of their experience for our good Take it with good spirit.

    You are true Julie Bai...
Most of the comments derailed from the main subject.. Many times i also helped by rickshaw drivers!!! Especially to find new location (as we are visiting mangalore once and a while during olden days). They helped me to find lodges and hotels to stay where they used to guide me to get reasonable budgeted one and secured one!!!! One cannot simply blame auto drivers.! They work day and night tirelessly for the betterment of their family..

No way I support Mr. Puneet. HE was wrong and above that he gets angry some one opposing it. How much others get angry seeing this joker entering no-entry and creating problem to others. does that mean everybody take knife and stab this stupid guy. How dare he. This is the problem. Youth doesn't have any patience, shame and guilty on the mistakes they do. First of all he should have said sorry and gone back. Instead of opposing Manjunath and above that coming back and stab him... come on heights. please freeze him at custody and take on him nicely so that next time he doesn't dare to stab some one nor enter any no entry in his life.... please.

Surely, the Rikshaw driver must have used a bad tongue against Punit.

Sometime, people out of ignorance drive into 'no entry', in small roads. Of course, it is a traffic violation.

However, I have seen many rikshwas and bikes in front of Forum mall at Pandeshwar ignore the one way traffic and drive opposite to you. It has become a 'mamul'.

I have not seen any traffic police apprehend them.

In all probability, the auto driver might have badly verbally abused the accused to the extent of him going into a fit of rage and stabbing with the small knife attached to the key chain!! Auto rajas here are very notorious for being abusive and rowdy nature!!

This young guy should be given rigorous punishment. They dont hav fear of law at all. Auto driver being a responsible citizen did his part, this does not mean that he needs to get stabbed. I do not see anything wrong in auto drive educating this young guy. More worse is, as place we do not even have sign boards of no-entry, speed limit, one way etc.. who is responsible for all this ?

I agree with you. If left unpunished, this gentleman will continue with the same attitude, breaking many more rules and regulations. This creates nuisance in public. Also a threat who try to stop him doing this. So, I wrote take him in to custody and drill nicely so that next time he thinks before act.

It was not an intentional act rather being created out of a situation, in better words, an insult in public. This happens with most of the youngsters when they are at their prime age. ( commonly called: Young blood)
