Oman to witness grand 'Buntara Vaibhava' in Oct-Nov

Media Release

Muscat, Sep 15: The Bunts community hailing from the south western region of Mangaluru in India, has its presence in Oman for over four decades under the banner of the 'Bunts of Oman'. The Bunts community gathering started during the year 1987 and ever since its inception, the community members in Oman have strived to bring all the community members of the coastal Karnataka region living in Oman specially Tuluvas (Tulu speaking coastal Karnataka people) together, encouraging multiple potential talents, promoting socio-cultural programmes, sports activities with a goal of preserving its cultural heritage. Today, they can proudly say that they are one of the progressive non-resident Indian communities in Oman with more than 1,200 families.

The organizing team of the Bunts of Oman is planning a mega sports day and family get-together event of three weeks to celebrate its 28 years of togetherness in Oman, aptly titled as 'Buntara Vaibhava 2015', meaning the 'Grandeur of Bunts'. As the title suggests, this grand and specially formulated event of three Fridays of October and November this year will exhibit the great splendor of Bunts culture and its extraordinary heritage.

Shiva Prasad Ariga, media coordinator of 'Buntara Vaibhava 2015' organizing committee said, "We, the organizing team members of the ‘Buntara Vaibhava 2015’, have put a lot of efforts and planning of many days to present this mega annual event in a great manner. Our Bunts culture and coastal Karnataka’s heritage will be highlighted during the event. This annual event will be an opportunity for all Bunts in Oman to meet their community members at one venue and share a smile with each other. On behalf of the organizing committee, I request all Bunts in Oman to come together and be part of the event."

The programmes will be held on the following dates and venues:

The sports day will be held on Friday October 9 at Ghubra Power and Desalination Company (GPDCO) grounds AL-Khuwair (men’s cricket only) from 7 am to 6 pm.

Bunts family sports day will be held on Friday, October 16 at Wadi Kabir sports complex grounds from 7 am to 8 pm.

Congratulations to the new team and all the very best to your Bantara Vibhava.

I think it is not fair to differentiate between Tulu speaking and Kannada speaking people. Its a community of all bunts residing in Oman. Better to be inclusive. Also, from 1987 to 2015 will not be over 4 decades. I also doubt whether this community has 1200 families in Oman? Probably you can verify and correct the statement. Otherwise my best wishes for your unity and progress.
