'The Stage' is visionary: Ehsaan Noorani

Mumbai, Sep 15 (IANS): "The Stage", an upcoming music reality show for English singing talent in India, is a visionary creation, says composer Ehsaan Noorani who is on its jury panel.

"#TheStage is a visionary creation by @colors_infinity and will become part of India's musical history," Noorani tweeted, referring to the novice concept in India's TV industry, where Hindi singing competitions are in abundance.

"The Stage", which will air on October 10, will be hosted by Shibani Dandekar. It will feature musicians Vishal Dadlani and Monica Dogra, as well as Devraj Sanyal, managing director and CEO at Universal Music Group, South Asia, as the jury members, apart from Noorani.

Even filmmaker Karan Johar, co-curator of the channel, has expressed that he was "amazed" with the show's concept.

"When I first heard about 'The Stage', I was amazed at the introduction of such a novel concept for Indian television. I can see a paradigm shift in the reality TV shows in India," he said.

Fellow co-curator and actress Alia Bhatt added: "English music is such an important part of our playlists but we don't get to see it anywhere on our music platforms. So 'The Stage' is an idea whose time has come."
