Bahrain: New Exec Committee of Karnataka Club Toastmasters Installed

Bahrain, Jul 7: A new executive committee of the Karnataka Club Toastmasters, Club No.2888 affiliated to the Toastmasters International Inc., was installed at the “Skybiz” of Karnataka Social Club premises.    

The impressive ceremony was conducted by CTM CL Abdul Rahim Hassan, Area Governor-elect of TMI District 79, Division C, Area 46, to which region the Club now belongs.   

The main anchor, compere and Master of Ceremonies was TM Lionel Mendonca. Outgoing president, CTM Jothi Ruben took control of the meeting, with a brief business session that included release and distribution of the 12-page colour issue of the “Kaleidoscope” in-house newsletter, which was released by VP-Public Relations, TM Rufus Pinto who along with CTM CL Joseph Andrade formed the editorial team for the newsletter. 

This was followed by a crisp Table Topics Session with CTM Jothi Ruben at the helm, taking the liberty to ask comments from members and guests on contemporary topics, testing the impromptu listening, thinking and speaking skills.   

The Annual Report of the Club term 2006-2007 was presented by out-going VP-Education, CTM CL Leroy Saldanha. Out-going Club President CTM Jothi Ruben thanked the outgoing executive committee and members for the support during the term and the focused on the progress made during the year based on the theme “commitment in pursuit of quality”.

ATM-Gold Mohandas K., who has been responsible to the Club as the Area Governor, also graced the occasion along with his wife Jyothi. A prolific Toastmaster,  he addressed the audience and spoke highly of the Toastmaster standards kept by the members during the whole term. Governor Mohandas K, along with his team of other Area officials, has been the guiding light for the Club. 

This was followed by trophies being awarded to Toastmaster members who had won in the Club’s in-house International Speech, Humorous Speech, Evaluation Speech and Table Topics Contests in a simple Awards Ceremony along and TMI Participation Certificates were presented to all the Contest participants acknowledging their efforts.   

The Toastmaster of the Year award for overall performance was once again awarded to CTM CL Joseph Andrade for the second year running, and the First-half-yearly term performance awards to CTM CL  Philomena D’Souza, runner-up CTM Jothi Ruben; and Second-half-yearly awards to CTM CL Joseph Andrade and runner-up CTM CL Leroy Saldanha. They were given away by Governor Mohandas.

The new Executive Committee with CTM CL Leroy Saldanha as the President, took control and delivered the first Presidential address with the new office-bearers by his side.

The other members of the new executive Committee of the Club are: CTM CL Joseph Andrade, VP-Education; TM Lionel Mendonca, VP-Membership; TM Rufus Pinto, VP-Public Relations;  TM Zishan Beg, Treasurer; TM Veena Nagaraj, Secretary.

In conclusion, the members and guests  catered themselves to a sumptuous vegetarian meal in fellowship, exchanging pleasantries.   

Karnataka Club Toastmasters, has been functioning since October 2001 as an affiliate of TM International, under the auspices of Karnataka Social Club, Bahrain, meeting on 2nd, 4th  and 5th (if there is one) Wednesdays of each month at the “Skybiz”.      Members interested in joining the Club are requested to contact VP-Membership TM Lionel Mendonca (Mobile tel: 39033864).

    Congratulations and best wishes to the Karnatak Toastmasters Club in Bahrain. If and when any of you visit Mangalore, please try and attend some of the Toastmasers Club or Gavel Club meetings and share some of your talents with them. Similarly, if anyone of you are planning to take part in the Toastmasters International Convention in Phoenix, Arizona during August,2007 please identify yourself to us so that we can share so many ideas for the future welfare of both Mangalore and Bahrain.
