Mangaluru, Sep 16: Police personnel from Pandeshwar station in the city succeeded in arresting three persons, who have been accused of skillfully executing thefts and house-breaks. Valuables worth about Rs 4.55 lac were recovered from their possession.
The arrested accused have been identified as Kiran (22) from Haveri, Sandeep (23) from Bajpe Porkody, and Ashok Kumar (28) from Vattanadu in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu.
The policemen said that Kiran and Ashok Kumar shifted base frequently, and stayed in tents. Theft and house-breaking has been their profession, and they have been involved with a number of thefts at different places. These two had come into contact with Sandeep a few years ago, when they were in the city. The threesome used to roam around different places in the guise of rag-pickers and note houses where families had gone away. At night, they used to break open the doors of houses and prayer centres, and steal gold ornaments and other things.
Kiran and Sandeep face theft cases registered in Bunder station here, whereas Ashok Kumar has been named in theft cases filed in Pandeshwar station. These thieves used to flee from the respective spots in trains after committing theft. Kiran's elder brothers, Ashok and Kumar too face a number of theft cases, and Kumar is presently behind bars.
The ornaments recovered from the accused pertain to five cases from city (south) station, 46 grams of ornaments connected with Suratkal station, laptop pertaining to a case registered in the city (east) station, 12 copper cauldrons pertaining to cases filed in city (rural) station, five bells of different sizes, 20 pedestal lamps, a laptop and sanitary items relating to two cases filed in Hassan town police station.
The arrests were affected by inspector of city (south) police station here, Dinkar Shetty, acting under the guidance of city police commissioner, S Murugan, deputy police commissioners, K M Shantaraj and Sanjeevas M Patil, as well as assistant police commissioner, R R Kalyan Shetty.
