50 killed in IS-Syrian regime clashes in Aleppo

Cairo, Sep 16 (IANS): At least 35 militants of Islamic State and 17 fighters of the pro-Syrian regime forces have been killed in the last 72 hours in fighting and airstrikes in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo, media reported on Wednesday.

The London-based NGO noted that the clashes and airstrikes took place around the villages of al-Salehiya and Tel Riman, located in eastern Aleppo, where the Syrian regime troops have been trying for several weeks to move into the area to help soldiers besieged by IS at the airbase of Kwayres for several months, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The military airbases in Syria were fiercely attacked by Syrian opposition forces in September.

IS organisation proclaimed the establishment of an Islamic caliphate in Syria and Iraq one year ago, where it has conquered large parts of these territories.
