255 PhD holders among 23 lakh lining for peon's job in UP

Lucknow, Sep 17 (PTI): Graduates, post graduates and even PhD holders are among the 23 lakh applicants vying for the post of peon in Uttar Pradesh government secretariat.

A record of sort was created after the UP government, which advertised for 368 posts of peon in secretariat, got 23 lakh responses.

The minimum qualification for the post of peon is that the applicant should be a class five pass out and know how to ride a bicycle.

Grabbing the opportunity, opposition parties in unison attacked the SP-led state government over its promise of providing employment to youths in the state.

Of the total 368 posts, 268 are for general category and the rest are for SC, ST and other reserved categories in the age group of 18 to 40 years.

"When we categorised the applications viz a viz a qualification, we were surprised to find that 255 doctorates have applied for the job," a senior secretariat administration official said.

He said that while more than 1.5 lakh graduates have applied for the job, the number of post graduates is 24,969, he said.

High school or equivalent pass outs comprise the maximum numbers with more than 11.21 lakh applicants as compared to class five pass outs, whose number is 53,426.

Even class 12th job seekers outnumber the minimum qualification with more than 7.5 lakh candidates. While 1,405 candidates are in others category, 2,681 are unclassified.
The officer said that initially it was decided to hold recruitment through interview.

But now, it is planned to hold written examination as well, because screening of such a large number of candidates would an uphill task and take time.

The opposition parties have raised questions over SP's claims of creating jobs in the state.

"It puts a question mark on the development claims of the SP government. What happened to SP's promise of providing jobs, when highly qualified people are applying for the post of peon and unemployment rate is so high," Congress alleged in a statement issued here.

It alleged high-level corruption and nepotism in the recruitments done so far during four years of SP regime.

State BJP chief Laxmi Kant Bajpai said that situation was serious as a large number of posts were vacant in different departments.

He alleged that while the SP government failed to give unemployment allowance, it also failed to provide employment opportunities.

"It is anti-unemployed government," he alleged.

It sounds very mysterious. what a pity!

Applicants are aware that even peons job in Government secretariat is not bad and would be the right place to make money (bribe) 100 times the usual monthly salary.

This post presently gets a total salary of Rs 16000 pm. Whatever the reason people applied, but the condition in India is not better, may be just a little better than UP. See below:

Karnataka public service commission 2464 posts 18.85 lakhs applied.
State bank of India Probationary Officer 1500 posts, 17 lakh applied.
UPSC 1129 posts, (these are high profile posts) 4.65 lakh applied.

This year one third of the country is in drought and drought like situation and population just goes on increasing. Universities just go on producing graduates, 75% of which are not employable. This is the reality.

In which university they got PhD? There is something fishy here. If a person has such a knowledge, he will not apply for peon job.

Did the authorities check the PHD received by them?

Is there any need of written test? Call the eligible and take interview (5th std pass and who knows riding bicycle). PHD person should get the job of his profile not a peon.

i.Selfish politicians and religious fanatics are reason for this. They will fill their mind with unnecessary things, so they become over intelligent.
ii. Family planning is not at all practiced in U.P. & Bihar, in all religions, so they are highly populated.
iii. Many of of them are not innocents, but hyper about caste, religions and traditions, have prejudiced minds, therefore unproductive in work, not easily employable. Good at lying.
iv. If education is not improving ones discipline, ethics and character, then it is of no use, simply waste of time and money.

Peons in Govt Offices in U.P are getting more Bribe or Bakshis than Babus (clerks). So naturally it is not surprising that Phd holders are applying for that job in UP.

"Doctor saab ek glass paani dijiye" our less educated ministers will ask the peon in future.

Really it is disgusting when someone outside the county asks us whether the report is true. In PG and Phd, there are applicants who are from Engineering, Commerce and Science. If they have passed from a recognized university and in legal way, I think the things are deplorable.

This is the condition of most of the youth in north India except Delhi and Calcutta Universities.
