Australian policeman guilty of driving drunk & without licence

Sydney, Sep 17 (IANS): An Australian police officer who has never held a driver's licence pleaded guilty on Thursday to high-range drunk driving after being caught by highway patrol officers in New South Wales (NSW).

The 46-year-old man had a blood alcohol reading of 0.170, more than three times of Australia's permitted limit, Xinhua news agency reported.

Sources said the officer has never held a licence to drive and held no exemption from being licensed.

This is despite the requirement that all NSW Police officers have valid driving permit.
