Nun found dead in Kerala, police suspect murder


Kottayam (Kerala), Sep 17 (IANS): A 69-year-old nun, Sister Amala, was found dead in her room at a convent in Pala near here and the police suspect she could have been murdered.

Police were investigating but needed some time before arriving at the cause of death, district police chief S. Satish Benoy told IANS.

"We are not ruling out anything. There is a big injury at the back of her head. We need some more time to come out with our findings," said Benoy, who visited the spot where Sister Amala was found dead.

A retired nurse, Sister Amala was leading a retired life in the convent at Pala.

According to the convent authorities, she was suffering from fever and was confined to her room.

After other inmates did not see her during morning prayers, they went to her room and found her lying in a pool of blood.

Police were called in who brought along a dog squad and forensic experts to investigate.
