Bangladeshi migrants held, narcotics seized in Bengal


Kolkata, Sep 17 (IANS): The Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended 69 illegal migrants, mostly Bangladeshis, and seized over 20 kg of narcotics in separates operations near the international border in West Bengal, an officer said on Thursday.

Of the 69 people apprehended for illegally crossing the border, 64 of them are Bangladeshis.

"In an operation on Wednesday night, we apprehended 46 people from Nadia district and 23 from Murshidabad district for illegally crossing the border. Of them 64 are from Bangladesh," said a BSF officer.

In another operation, the BSF troopers seized 20 kg of ganja (cannabis) in Nadia while 300 grams of heroin was confiscated in Murshidabad district on Wednesday night.

The BSF have so far this year seized over 575 kg of ganja and 10 kg of heroin besides apprehending nearly 4,000 people, including 2,893 Bangladeshi illegal migrants.
