Mangaluru: Accident victims lie helpless on road, minister Khader to the rescue

Mohan Kuthar
Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Sep 17: In yet another exemplary gesture of humanity, health minister U T Khader on Thursday September 17 admitted to hospital two accident victims who were seriously hurt and lying on the road. He also paid their hospital expenses.

James (50) and his wife Suzanne (48), residents of Asaigoli were riding home in their scooter from Thokkottu when James lost balance and both fell on the road and sustained serious leg and head injuries.

However, though they were lying helplessly on the road, none of the passersby or locals made any effort to take them to hospital, it is said.

Meanwhile, minister U T Khader who was returning to Mangaluru after participating in a Ganeshotsava event at Naringana saw the couple lying on the road and stopped his vehicle. Without wasting any time, he shifted the couple into his vehicle with the help of some party workers who were accompanying him, and took them to KS Hegde Hospital in Deralakatte.

Khader also paid their hospital expenses in advance from his own pocket.

It is learnt that James felt faint due to the intense heat while riding and fell off the scooter, and blacked out. When he came to his senses, he found himself on the hospital bed, and later learnt that the minister had admitted him and his wife to hospital. The couple expressed gratitude to U T Khader for helping them.

I believe a majority among the public are more than willing to help accident victims, but are hesitant only to avoid getting entangled in police questioning and court proceedings. Hence the police authorities must publicly advice and encourage people to come to the rescue of accident victims, which can possibly save many lives.

Of course in this case the police won’t dare to register any case since the rescuer is a VVIP. My sincere thanks to the Hon’ble Minister Khader.

Indeed it is a great thought. But, what is bugging is why did the Minister have to 'pay from his own pocket' for the hospital expenses??
The Govt. has stipulated that in such circumstances the Govt bears the expense and it is free?? No doubt the ordinary man can not come near as they have not the means.

Minister Khader - You are a role Model as a Politician but more so as a human being. You have set an example to others to help the poor and the needy. It is unfortunate that passers-bye did not care to render insistence to the accident victims but you made time to help them - even to the extent of paying for the hospital expenses.

You will continue to remain a peoples' choice in elections. May your example be followed by others.

    Sir
One important question needs to be addressed here, and point to be noted. Mr. James and his wife are fortunate that your car was passing so you managed to rush them to hospital.
But if any common man try to do the same, will he be safe from police cross questioning? will any hospital accept them?
Please address this issues immediately, so let everyone extend the help in case of such emergencies.
Otherwise why public did not bother to rush them to hospital?
Once actor Amjad Khan met with an accident on Goa - Mumbai highway and trapped inside the car for more than 2 hours. No one dared to touch them. Later one Govt bus driver stopped to help him and his family.
This is a sad true story.. real tragedy
