NICO to organise M’luru International Film Festival in Sep 2016

Mangaluru, Sep 18: Very soon the cine lovers in Mangaluru will get a chance to view and appreciate films from across the world as Nitte Institute of Communication (NICO) part of Nitte University will be organising Mangaluru International Film Festival in September 2016.

The formal announcement of the event was made by the head of department, Raviraj Kini during the inauguration of Nitte Film Society on Friday, September 18 at its Paneer Campus at Deralakatte.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the institution will organise the festival keeping in mind the great film works made in various language. The event will be a platform for cine lovers to analyse and interact with personalities who have created a niche for themselves in the field of cinema.

Chief guest of the event, K Phaniraj, professor of Manipal Institute of Technology and the convener of Udupi Chitra Samaj officially inaugurated the Nitte Film Society by unveiling the portrait of renowned film maker Satyajit Ray.

On the occasion, he gave a call to students of communication to be the citizens of film rather than being just consumers.

“Every viewer can raise questions or analyse the film when they become a citizen. The film viewing is an art which needs lot of patience through which the viewer can deliver appreciation as well as criticism”, he added.

He further said that the film viewing should not be limited to smart-phones or laptops but should be viewed in public along with mass.

As part of the inauguration, award winning Bosnian film ‘No Man’s Land’ (2001) directed by Danis Tanovic was screened followed by a discussion.

Faculty coordinator, Dr Appa Rao, student convener Rushank, teaching and non teaching faculty and students were present on the occasion.

Nitte Film Society:

The aim of Nitte Film Society is to inculcate the qualities of viewing film and appreciating it within students. The club will screen award winning movies, documentaries, animation films and short films once in a month for students as well as general public.
The club will also organise film workshops, symposiums and interactions with prominent personalities from the field of cinema.
