Former militant shot dead in Kashmir


Srinagar, Sep 18 (IANS): A former militant was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Friday in Jammu and Kashmir's Sopore town, police said.

Motorcycle-riding gunmen shot at Bashir Ahmad Bhat, a former militant of the Jamiat-ul-Mujaideen outfit, in Sagipora area of Sopore on Friday evening, a police officer told IANS. Bhat later succumbed to his injuries.

A grenade fell down from the possession of the assailants while escaping.

A murder case has been registered, police said.

The Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen is a breakaway faction of the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen.
