Two girls from Kanpur elope, 'marry' each other in Delhi

Kanpur, Sep 19 (PTI): Two girl students, belonging to different communities, allegedly ran away from their homes here and got married in Delhi, police said.

According to a missing complaint lodged by the parents of one of the girls, their 21-year-old daughter, a BSc student, ran away from home on July 30 along with a senior student of the degree college she was studying in.

Both the girls left their respective homes on the pretext of going to college. Later, they called up their parents from a PCO in Delhi informing their location and asking them not to panic, a police spokesman said.

Two days back, the duo sent photographs to their respective parents through mobile phones claiming that they had got "married", he added.

Based on the missing complaint, an FIR has been registered at Rail Bazar police station here.

"A police team has been sent to Delhi today to find the girls on the basis of their mobile phone location," the spokesperson said.
