Doha, Sep 22: A heap of praise was showered on the Indian expat community working in Qatar towards the contributions made in various engineering fields, by Dr Ali Abdulla Al Merri, former director of Kahraama and GM of Gulf Engineering & Industrial Consultancy.

Speaking as a guest of honor in the event organized by Karnataka Sangha Qatar (KSQ) to mark the birthday celebrations of Sir M Vishweshwaraiah on September 15, which was also celebrated as Engineer's Day, Dr Merri paid rich tributes to the doyen of India, Bharata Ratna, Sir M Vishweshwaraiah for his contributions and services towards nation building and development of India. Dr Merri also listed the various achievements of Sir M Vishweshwaraiah.

Seenu Pillai, ICC’s vice-president who was the chief guest, lauded the idea of KSQ’s tribute to commemorate the birthday celebrations of one of the geniuses of India in the engineering field.

The function began by lighting of lamp by KSQ officials and the guests. Kruthika Ashwin made an audio–video presentation that ran through the entire life of Sir M Vishweshwaraiah. On the subject of engineering and its values, guest speakers, Savious Crasta spoke on re-cycling of plastic and its impact on the environment.

Venkata Rao laid on the importance of green concrete and Kishore Venkateshan presented a topic on off-shore engineering.

Two prominent engineers working in Qatar, H S Murali and S K Arun Kumar were conferred with Abhiyantarashree awards for their contributions in the engineering field.

KSQ president, H K Madhu presided over the function and also delivered the welcome address. While, Janaki Ravi compered the programme, KSQ’s general secretary, Sandesh Anand proposed the vote of thanks.
