Most Americans say corruption widespread in US

Washington, Sep 22 (IANS): Three in four Americans say corruption is widespread in the US government, a survey has said.

Although the percentage was four points lower than that in 2013, it still represented the second highest number in the past seven years, Xinhua news agency quoted a Gallup survey as saying.

The percentage of Americans who see corruption as pervasive has never dropped under 70 percent except in 2007 and 2009, when about two in three Americans held such a view, the survey showed.

The survey was done among 1,000 people and the result were released on Friday.

The poll also found that 72 percent of Americans said politicians cannot be trusted and 64 percent described the US political system as "basically dysfunctional".
