Bengaluru: Manufacturer of fake beedies violating copyright law arrested

Bengaluru, Sep 24: Police from City Crime Branch, gathered information about manufacturer and trader of fake Sultan beedies violating copyright law, raided his premises on Nehru road, Padarayanapura on September 23 and arrested M Nawab(66), the accused.

The police have recovered labels in the name of Sultan Beedies, rings, 8 bundles of beedies and other items collectively worth Rs 2 lacs. A police case is registered at J J Nagara police station.

It is reported that the accused was bringing fake labels and rings from Shivakashi, preparing beedies, selling them in Hosuru and violating the copyright law. While the copyright owners were selling the beedies for Rs 15 per pack, the accused was also selling his fake products for Rs 15 without printing the price, making the customers believe that they were Sultan brand beedies.
