Passengers in Abu Dhabi airport reach new high

Abu Dhabi, Sep 27 (IANS): The passenger traffic in Abu Dhabi International Airport has reached a new high in just one month, the media reported on Sunday.

Over 2.25 million travellers passed through the airport in August, compared with the 1.92 million the same period in 2014, Xinhua news agency reported.

"For the second time ever, we witnessed over two million passengers travelling through in a single month," said Chief Operations Officer at Abu Dhabi Airports Ahmad Al Haddabi.

The spike in traffic was attributed to many residents returning from vacations before the reopening of schools and the beginning of the academic year, he added.

Abu Dhabi is also increasingly seen as a preferred tourism and business destination, al Haddabi added.
