Kasargod, Sep 30: Police have taken one person into custody in relation to the bank robbery which had taken place at Chervatthur. Two sketches of the main suspect have been released.

Yusuf from Trikkaripura is the person taken into custody. Yusuf had introduced the main suspect Ismail to the landlord of the building. Police have received some important information from him, the sources said.

A team headed by Kanhangad DySP Harishchandra Naik has been constituted to crack the Chervatthur Vijaya bank robbery case. Neeleshwar sub inspector K E Premachandran, Chandera sub inspector M Rajesh are also part of the police team.

Cash amount of Rs 2. 95 lac and gold weighing around 19.75 kilograms were looted from the bank.

Police have the reliable information on the case, it is said. Ismail previously said to be from Manjeshwara Kadambar has been identified in the case and the investigation is being done centered around him. Ismail and four of his accomplices from outside the state are absconding. Ismail is said to have known Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi.

Ismail had taken a room below the bank on rent. The papers he submitted to get the room on rent are said to be fake. He had given the papers saying those belonged to his wife. He had taken the room three months back with the reason that he wanted the room to start a footwear and fancy store. Four workers were brought from outside the state to do the interior work.

The rented room was used to make a passage to the strong room of the bank which was situated just above.

The workers had drilled through the wall to make the passage. The theft was discovered on Monday, September 28.

Meanwhile investigations at Manjeshwar revealed that Ismail does not belong to that place as he had claimed. Now it is obvious that he wanted to mislead everyone from the beginning.

ADGP of north region Shankar Reddy visited the bank on Tuesday afternoon. State home minister Ramesh Chennithala later visited the bank and had interactions with police.

Police have enquired many people around the city regarding the theft. CCTV cameras installed at Chervatthur Farmer’s bank opposite the spot of the theft have captured some pictures which will be of help in the investigations. The suspects are seen moving from the bank with the loot in the pictures which are not very clear.

The investigation is extended outside the state. The four workers believed to be from north India are also in the lookout list of the police in adddition to Ismail.

    Shankar,
True (from Zanzibar) but the sketch too depends (to some extent) on the persons face and the shape. There may be some similarities. Let us wait to see the real face when the culprit is caught.

Now a days its not easy to get away with this type of old styled robberies. If not bank surrounding road side shops are having CC cameras, if the footage is monitored on the particular day with the vehicles plying in the same route, culprits can be easily identified.

I really doubt the ability & competency of the Si's of small town to probe the investigations. It should be handed over to state crime branch without delay.

Can't they trace the culprits by their mobile numbers which were obtained from the gang member who is in custody. There may be inside involvement in this operation. They should be punished such burglary shoul not happen in the future.
