Mangaluru, Oct 1: A student of St Aloysius PU College was found hanging in the college hostel on Thursday October 1. Following the incident, students led by ABVP gathered at the college premises the same afternoon and protested demanding investigation into the case and arrest of the assistant director.

Noel Mendonca, son of Wally and Irene Mendonca, allegedly committed suicide by hanging in his room late night on Wednesday September 30. His roommate was on leave and Noel was alone in the room before he took the extreme step, it is learnt.

The incident came to light on Thursday when other hostel inmates knocked on his door and got no response. They informed the warden, who then looked in through the ventilator window and saw Noel hanging.

The reason behind the suicide is not yet known, but the protestors alleged that harasmment by hostel's assistant director drove Noel to suicide. They demanded the arrest of the assistant director and thorough investigation into the case.

Sources said that about three days ago, he had shown a death note to his friends.

The protestors also claimed that the assistant director of the hostel had demanded Rs 15,000 from Noel, but they could not say why. The ABVP activists said that they tried calling the assistant director but his phone was switched off.

"When we approached the management asking the reason behind Noel's suicide, we were told that the hostel management was different, but there is no one in the hostel we can speak to. The warden also was not there," the ABVP activists said.

The management has reportedly said that a personal issue may have been behind Noel's suicide.

Sources in the college said that Noel had been caught stealing a mobile phone about six months back. He was basically from Mumbai, and his parents are on their way to Mangaluru.

The Bunder police arrived at the spot and dispersed the protestors.

what a sad incident.Poor Boy may his Soul rest in peace.Heartfelt condolences to the parents.when there was a note atleast one could come to conclusion ,instead of thinking of reasons.was it a ragging in hostel?mmissed parents?when a warden is in hostel, does he not control every evening?why did the Boy not tell his sorrows to anybody? The People or students cant protest to Arrest someone without proper cause.Hope this case will be solved fast thoroughly. In hostels they should see that someone is there to counsel students when they have Problems.Afterall they are still children, and have Problems with whom they cant speak.

why there is is no PUC in mumbai? really really i dont understand why the parents now a days dump their children far away in hostels? now a days children are so fragile and they dont know the difficulty in life. for example me too studied in that same college and my fly background was very poor and we had an intention to support fly and reduce the burden of parents after getting a good job and we were struggling. but now a days in a fly. only one or 2 children. parents have money and house they dont bother about their children. if u love your children keep them with you till PUC at least

The reason behind his suicide is for the police to investigate after autopsy & forensic results. They need to interrogate his friends & room mate too.
Who are ABVP to demand to know what is the reason from the management?
Are they extra judicial authority to get priority even before police can release the details?
Some victims let others know of their intention of this act, never ignore as they need assistance at this critical time to avert the suicide.

Can these Political party backed Student unions ever keep out of campus? They just need as protest. Why before an FIR they want the assistant director to be arrested? Protest premeditated to tarnish the institution. Let the police do investigation first. Aren't the protesters student wing of moral Police brigade?

Very sad news. This should not be the end of any issue. We should face it. I am with the grievance of the family of the youth. However, I could not understand why ABVP is involving in the issue. What they want to show. They are enjoying day off. Nothing can be expect from this goonda organization other than ruin student's life. I request students to keep away from this anti student organization which is made of, by and for goondas only. Collage management or police should not allow any agitation by this uncivilized organization. Let us do it on the streets as they are fit for that only. Many ABVP students are seen taking drugs in the corner of roads.

Student's are so fragile these days. Sad for the parents. It is a challenge these days to run institutions for the youth, there is no proper support from their own friends circle even, when youngsters feel depressed or desperate. How can management help, if their own circle is not able to help.

A few months back one student did suicide at Valachil college Hostel. ABVP was not there to raise voice and no police complaint. Two Suicides at Moodbidri college hostel. No ABVP or any other organisation complained. But one suicide at St. Aloysius and we have a Swarm of ABVP questioning and complaining. I am not supporting the management. But wondering of the mentality of protesters.
