Unfortunate that Modi was born in Gandhi's land - Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru, Oct 3 (DHNS): Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said it was unfortunate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been born in the land of Mahatma Gandhi.

Speaking after inaugurating a function organised at the KPCC headquarters to mark Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri's birth anniversary, he said people should be cautious about BJP leaders.

The communal BJP always pursues hidden agenda and Congress members should be doubly careful about BJP leaders and always be ready to counter their agenda, he added.

He came down heavily on RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat over his recent statement calling for review of the reservation policy, and said the system would continue as long as the country had the caste system.

The caste system can go only when there is change in people's mindset and that can happen only when there is social and economic equality in society, he added.

“Modi is dreaming of smart cities. It is not a mistake. We, too, support it. But villages must also become smart along with cities. Only then will Mahatma Gandhi's dream of gram swaraj come true,” said the chief minister.

Speaking later at a function to give away the Gandhi Grama Puraskara awards, Siddaramaiah said care should be taken to ensure people in rural areas do not migrate in large numbers to urban areas while developing smart cities.

“A large section of people are still living in rural areas. So importance should be given on the development of villages,” he said.

KPCC president G Parameshwara also attacked Modi at the KPCC function, saying it was unbecoming of a prime minister to speak lightly of Opposition parties abroad.

No prime minister in the past, including Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, had spoken ill of the Opposition when travelling abroad, he added.

    Dear readers,

There is nothing wrong in someone being born in India.

Only difference here is Father of nation Gandhi followed 'Ahimsa' and 'Satyagraha' and became great leader.

While later removed letter 'A' from 'Ahimsa' and continued his legacy and became a leader.

A CM who has spent Rs. 4.87 lakhs for shawls/towels during 6 months has no right to talk on poor. When the whole state is burning, this neo-Nero is enjoying his short stint with a extravagance even an elite class cannot dream of. It is indeed fortunate that he was not born in Gandhi's land. Caste system in India is not subsiding due to caste-based reservation policy. In a productive environment, engaging people should be purely based on merit and performance. Government shall raise the performance bar of backward class through support programmes and assistance, if need be. Teach them to fish rather than giving fish daily. Financial condition of backward class has "improved" from bad to worst though caste reservation was operable for past sixty years.

As per government data, a mere annual income of Rs. 10000/- is enough for a family of four. Income above Rs. 1.50 Lakhs is heavily taxed in this federal republic. Still, threshold for creamy layer is fixed at Rs. 10 Lakhs. If you still argue for caste-based reservation system, elite class among the backwards should be brought out of reservation system. Limit for creamy layer should reasonably be reduced to Rs. 2 to 3 Lakhs so that advantage of reservation will reach the needy. See the data on reservation. Many of the reserved seats in job and higher education goes to elite class among the backwards. Now top government jobs are filled with these people and they vociferously insist for continuation of the system for the sake of their kins. We are in a vicious circle with no hopes of coming out in near future. In this process, meritorious candidates prefer private sector wherein public sector scrawls with the burden of these merit-compromised non-performers. Take the case of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. 70% of manpower is recruited on compromised merit on reservation route as many meritorious candidates has shifted to private sector. Do you need reasons why their projects remain on ground and always failed to take-off?

In what function you are attacking on PM?? On whos birthday anniversary function you are talking?? You people are simply using Gandhi’s name for your party/personal use. Whether Gandhi’s attitude will support your talk? who divided this country? vote bank politics divided the people of this country. During election time how you people distributed the tickets? Have you not considered the caste/religion at that time? then who is communal? You are talking about villages. Do you know where our farmers are living? Have you heard about farmer’s suicide case in karnataka? what kind of program your govt implemented for villages. your free bhaghyas wont help the development of villages. you don't have any vision about the development of this state. your mission is only to get the vote for next election. as per my understanding & as read in my school days & even now, a person called MOHANDAS KARAMACHAND GANDHI OR MAHATHMA GANDHI never hate his country people. by wearing white cloth nobody will become gandhis followers. can you now tell me what is unfortunate?
