Mangaluru, Oct 3: One lost his life and two were saved when they got trapped in the silt in a river at Alivebagilu near Uchila Talapady on Friday October 2.
The deceased has been identified as Arfaz (16), son of Abbas from Pilikuru in K C Nagar. He was the student of Falah School at K C Road.
As it was holiday on account of Gandhi Jayanthi, around 15 boys went for swimming on Friday afternoon. When they were enjoying the swim, three among the group got trapped in the silt near the shore of the river. Other boys shouted for help. When the locals came to save the boys, Arfaz had already lost his life. Other two were saved by the locals.
The river where it joins the sea was filled with soil which resulted in increased silt. But the boys were unaware about the dangers of the silt. The group of boys had walked all the way from Bettampady to the river to spend their holiday without knowing that a tragedy awaited them.
Fire brigade and police arrived later. A case has been registered.
