Mangaluru: Poojary meets Sonia Gandhi over Yettinahole project, wants MP to approach PM

Mangaluru, Oct 3: Senior Congress leader Janardhan Poojary on Saturday October 3 said that he has met Congress president Sonia Gandhi to apprise her about the adverse impact of the Yettinahole Drinking Water Project, and that the party high command has directed that the issue should be discussed in detail with Poojary.

Addressing a press meet at the district Congress office here, Poojary said, "I had gone to Delhi to meet Sonia Gandhi and I spoke to her about the Yettinahole project and explained its cons. She was surprised and asked me to get all the details, so I wrote her a letter with details about all aspects of the project. I also mentioned the injustice being done to the people of Tumakuru, Kolar and Bengaluru and other districts.

"On Thursday October 1 at around 12 noon, I got a call from Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel who asked me if he had got a call from chief minister Siddaramaiah or water resources minister M B Patil. I said I hadn't. Ahmed Patel said that the high command has directed that the issue should be discussed with me," he said.

"I do not know if the CM has got time to call me. So far I have not received any call from him. When I explained the whole scenario, Sonia Gandhi understood the seriousness of the matter," he added.

"What I want to say to the CM is he should look into the report prepared by the central environment department, which clearly states the extent of loss which would occur on the coastal belt if this project continues. The ecology department is based in Bengaluru, hence the CM should hold a meeting and discuss this issue if he is really sincere. Let him keep an hour out of his schedule for this discussion. People of Chikkaballapur, Kolar and Tumakuru and other beneficiaries of this project are also Kannadigas. Not only are the coastal people being cheated, but also people of that region. People of neither sides should be cheated," he said.

"We understand that it is the CM's responsibility to provide water, but the government should find a permanent, workable solution. I do not think the forest department of Karnataka has understood the seriousness of the damage that the project would cause. We will also fight along with the people of Kolar region for a permanent solution to their drinking water problem. Political will is required to stop this project and find a permanent solution. I urge the CM not to act like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP who cheat people with false promises," Poojary added.

"MP of Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Shobha Karandlaje gave a statement in Udupi supporting the project. Within a few hours, she made a u-turn in Puttur. Former chief minister Yeddyurappa, being MP of Byndoor, is also a representative of the coastal region," he said.

Referring to the Mahadayi river project, he said, "Everyone including D V Sadananda Gowda, the chief minister Siddaramaiah and opposition leader of the parliament Mallikarjuna Kharge met the PM regarding the project, but what did he do? The Mahadayi project is not only for Karnataka, but Goa and Maharashtra are also involved in this. From so many days farmers are protesting on the streets. This is an inter-state issue. Usually CMs are called to solve inter-state issues, but in this case, the PM has called opposition leaders. What is wrong with him? And this, despite the fact that Goa and Maharashtra has BJP CMs."

Coming back to the Yettinahole issue, Poojary also hit out at union law minister Sadananda Gowda (DVS). "Sadananda Gowda does not understand the seriousness of the matter. He only understands about his son. I know why he has taken up law ministry, but I will not open my mouth. You (DVS) are cheating the people of the coastal region," he said, adding 'there is another one from our own party who was the former chief minister' without naming Veerappa Moily.
"People of coastal region will not cheat the people of Kolar and other districts, but these people are trying to make Dakshina Kannada another Kolar in terms of water scarcity. The alternative is not important. Everyone understands the adverse impact of this project, right from children to the elderly, but the state government does not."

Targetting MP Nalin Kumar next, he said, "The MP of this region is conducting a rally to protest against the project. What kind of rally is it? He should instead go to Delhi taking all other MPs along and ask the PM to stop this project. Didn't I go to Delhi? The MP has to meet everyone possible, the PM, the environment misnter, water resources minister and others. This is a question of the survival of the people of this region."

Addressing himself to PM Modi and other BJP leaders, he said, "Modi, power is not permanent. Sadananda Gowda, Venkaiah Naidu, Ananth Kumar - you are not going to be in power permanently, including the CM. Other than the people and the media, none of you is able to understand the seriousness of this issue. The MP should lead a rally to Delhi. Then we will trust his sincerity."

When asked why he was pointing fingers at the centre, he said only the central government could stop this project now.

Asked why he was not taking out a rally in protest against the project, Poojary said, "I will not trouble the people. If I was the MP, I would have gone to the PM and everyone concerned to ensure that the project was stopped."

He also released a copy of the letter on Yettinahole project he wrote to Sonia Gandhi.

Harikrishna Bantwal and others were present.

This is a political game played by JP and his cronies. The work on Yettinahole started around 2 years back after siddhu became the CM. So why is then JP targeting Modi then? Why can't he go and put pressure on Siddu to halt this project until a team of international experts comes with a feasibility report. And also if JANARADHA POOJARY is really serious about his objection then he need to QUIT CONGRESS and lead the agitation against the yettinahole project. Right now it looks like there are two groups within the congress who are trying to fool the people.

Great, for the first time Senior citizen Janardhan poojary is talking partly sense and some non-sense. My dear Jannanna, is it your ploy for election ticket next time. You know why I am asking, I went through your letter to Sonia, where in you have written that it is BJP ploy. Can you explain how? Even though sadanand gowda proposed this project, it was sanctioned and executed by the congress govt. both in center and state. As per UPA policy before acquisition of land for any public/private project Social Impact Survey should be conducted, but it this case both congress govt in state and center conveniently forgot to do. Besides, the contracting company belongs to one IAS officer in the state against whom corruption case is going on, do you mean that Siddaramaih is blind in this matter? How the project is granted that company without floating global tender for this mega project? You are blaming Modi to interfere in this project and stop it. Don't you know this is entirely state subject, where congress is ruling, sanctioned the project.

Tulu people are smart enough to know your double game. If modi interferes, first your congress will say that it is interference in stat subject. If he stops, then kolar, tumkur people will be against BJP and if he approves then Tulunad people will be against BJP. You know very well that's the reason you wrote to Sonia Gandhi, not PM Modi to strengthen your political position the party, but your position in Mangalore is not going to improve. So please stop political game. However, I appreciate your efforts, even though you have cunning personal interest, let it be for the betterment of Tulunad.

It is clear that Shri J.P. has sensed the frustration building up in Coastal people, hence it is his only chance to beat his Friend turned Foe Shri V.M. who used his all might to defeat him in last L.S. election. Yettina Hole happens or not but we can fore see the defeat of Congress in coming assembly and L.S. election for sure. Congress workers are totally confused lot. They do not know their future with whom. Recent Padayatre and MCC resolution is ample example for this.

I appreciate the bold step taken by our Ex-MP Janardhana Poojary to go to Delhi High command, meet Sonia Gandhi and apprise the situation of Udupi/Dakshina Kannada people.I don't mind whether he belongs to congress or BJP but his concern for the people of Udupi,Dakshina Kannada is really commendable and laudable. No MPs or ministers of this region would have done this fearing the lost of his/her adorable seat to mint money. But our bold JP has done it again whether it is with vested interest or any other benefit.Hats off JP.God bless you

I have all along maintained that this man, Mr. Janardhan Poojary is a man for people like us. Notwithstanding the loose tongue on which sometimes he loses control, his intentions are very clear. He is for the common man. He is the only person from the political circle, apart from Mr. Vijay Kumar Shetty to have raised his voice against the project. Where are the others who we elected to power? Why aren't they saying a word? Mr. Poojary is the true son of this soil and it is our duty to support him in whatever way possible. His actions are commendable and instead of pointing a finger at his limitations, let us all, the people of this district, rally behind this savior, without caste or creed and without thinking about the political party we belong to. Our shameless politicians, both from the Congress and the BJP - I am tired of naming them - are good for nothing, they are only thinking about themselves. Mr. Poojary, I am convinced, is one person who is thinking about the people of this region. I appeal to all my friends to support him whole heartedly. We must realise that he is fighting for us and let us all wake up from our deep slumber. If we do not do that now, we will have only ourselves to blame. And a small piece of advice. We never act till the problem arrives at our doorstep. Please shed this mentality.

Let us see the writing on the wall and act now. Before it is too late. This project is certain to wreck havoc with our district. Please, please rise now. Defeat the nefarious intentions of Sadananda Gowda and Veerappa Moily and all those corrupt people who are like termite in our society. Drag them out and throw them into the Arabian Sea. Let us prove that we can also wake up when the situation demands. The time to wake up is now.

Sidhu has collected his share already and has no option to go back on this project. The highcommand it's part of the cake from Sidhu and now acting immaculate in front of Poojary. Sonya and Ahmed are playing games with Poojary. Pity, he is too old to understand all these!

Simple question to Jannanna & the Dongis

If DVS as a ex- CM has the power to approve the project, how come Nidderamiah as the current CM scrap this project when there is so much opposition ? Why pointing fingers at center ? Modi don't approve this project. In that case it was UPA govt at center when it was approved. Who are these people fooling ?

Nidderamiah knows that his political clout is limited in coastal districts and Congress is going to loose all the seats in undivided DK in the next elections, that's why the voices of coastal people not important, he is thinking at least if congress or his future ahinda party get some base in Kolar belt. That's the joy reason why he wants the project to go ahead.

I have a serious question for Congress Party, what did they do in the last 65 years when they were ruling this country? Did you care about people & their problems? When you ruled the country for at least 50plus years with full majority from Panchayat to Parliament without any opposition what did you do? When you cannot solve the problems in 65 years & you want all the solutions from PM MODI within a year? Come on... don't be a joker. Why there is no basic amenities like water & Electricity? Who is accountable for this? who is responsible?

Hats off Sri Janardhana Poojary for this commendable work in going to all the way to Congress High command and appraise the Yettinahole project with all its disadvantages to the coastal region.I think nobody would have done this much effectively ahowing his concern for Mangalore. It is irrelevent that he not an elected leader now.But people will rally behind him irrespective of political affiliations in this hour of crisis. Our No.1 MP should take time to read and re-read the letter written by Poojary to Sonia Gandhi to get the facts and figures on the issue.Wake up Nalin Kumar and instead of rolling on road pl go to Delhi and appraise the situation to PM and see what best could be done in the interest of people who elected you for a second term.I hope fully wish that after reading the letter of Poojary Saddu Gowda will be gheraoed in DK by Mangaloreans in his next visit.I wish Poojary should open his mouth why DVS was removed from Railyway ministry as there hidden some interesting facts!!! People have to know the karma kanda of Saddu!!!
I Complement Sri Poojary and now look upon him the only person in Mangalore who can be relied upo in the Yettinahole struggle.
