Kundapur, Oct 3: A general store situated at Siddapur here was gutted in a major fire mishap on the night of Friday October 2. The total loss is estimated at Rs 1.1 crore.

The shop, Kamath General Stores, owned by Raviinath Kamath, was functioning for the last thirty-five years.

The shop was closed as usual on Friday night. At around 10 pm, the neighbours sensed something burning and noticed the fire. They immediately informed the shop owner.

Though two fire brigades rushed to the spot and tried to extinguish the fire, the flames had spread rapidly by then and items in the shop were gutted, it is said.

A credit society office located next to the general store also suffered damages worth Rs 7 lac. The flames also spread to another adjacent store.

Short circuit is said to be the cause of the fire.

Kundapur MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty and Byndoor MLA Gopal Poojary visited the spot.

A case has been registered in Shankaranarayana police station.

It is really very painful incident. But in business we will have ups and downs. Mr. Kama the might have earned much more than the current loss in last 3 decades. Plus this loss has full insurance cover. So they can build most modern and we'll equipped store with better planning of space and display. They will recover the loss quickly
Many businessmen lost huge amount in middle-east, but they said we came here empty handed, but we will recover losses and they recovered it

If you store valuable goods....get the wiring right!! In the middle east we call faulty wiring as Bangali wiring job! Please do not misunderstand with West Bengal of India!! I still can not forget that we helped bangalis with 5 NP red stamp in early 70's when I was in primary!! Habitually they are not the one to remember every small contribution of India!!!
