Mangaluru, Oct 5: Residents of Adyar under the banner of BJP Yuva Morcha on Monday October 5 staged a silent protest in front of Pandeshwar police station here demanding justice and detailed investigation into the mysterious death of Akshata in 2013.
Akshata (18), a second year BCom student from a college at Car Street, went missing on September 21, 2013, and her body was found on the banks of a river at Bolar three days later onSeptember 24. Her friend and collegemate Madan, who was said to be the prime suspect, has been missing since then. The police however closed the case a few days later as no evidence of murder was found.
Speaking to Pandeshwar circle inspector Dinakar Shetty, the protestors alleged the mysterious death of was not suicide but a murder. They also demanded Pandeshwar police to trace Madan.
Speaking to mediapersons, BJP leader Pradeep Shetty, said, "The police should solve this case within a month and also trace Madan who went missing after her death. If the police fail to take appropriate steps in solving the case, all residents of Adyar along with various organizations will call for a national highway bandh near Adyar."
Rajeevi, the mother of the victim, who was present during the protest also claimed that her daughter did not end her life as she did not have any suicidal tendencies.
The protestors also submitted a memorandum to the police urging CID probe into the case.
On this occasion BJP Yuva Morcha leaders Brijesh Chowta, Varun Chowta, Prasanna Kumar, Suchan and others were present.
Speaking to daijiworld, inspector Dinakar Shetty said that the case was closed on September 29, 2013. "The case was registered as unnatural death as the forensic examination could not prove murder. Even the medical examination did not show any evidence of foul play."
Regarding the missing Madan, he said, "That is the problem. If he is traced, we can get more details about the case. We are making sincere efforts to trace him and we even got in touch with the Kerala police in this regard. We have already enquired with the parents, neighbours, his relatives and friends, but he is yet to be traced."
He also said that if the protestors want a reinvestigation, they could file a case under sections 302 or 306 of the IPC.
