Udupi: Impressive work of Nadoja G Shankar highlighted on his birthday

Udupi, Oct 5: Nadoja G Shankar trustee of G Shankar Family Trust turned 60 on October 5, today. The grand birthday bash was celebrated at Shamili Hall, here.





















The programme was inaugurated by Baby Ramya along with justice S R Naik, chairman, state law commission, Bengaluru.

G Shankar recalled his earlier days saying, "Social service towards the deprived has been my dream. This programme is organized to instil a sound mind, courage and confidence among patients suffering from cancer and kidney related illnesses. I have led a very meaningful and satisfactory life so far. I have been through all the ups and downs."

"I have been working in Raichur, Bijapur, Uttara Karnataka, but have rendered my service in Udupi. God has given me strength to contribute financially to the poor. We have to contribute something to society when we are alive. I have fully rendered my service in Udupi, but it is yet to be fulfilled in Uttara Karnataka. I will do so in the future. My parents have brought me up with good habits and my wife supports me all the time.

He also said that the social system has changed. God always lives with him and He has never turned his back on him in all his sixty years. Shankar will continue to work as before for the betterment of society.

G Shankar decided to gift Rs 1 crore towards starting a new cancer unit at Wenlock Hospital, Mangaluru.

S R Naik said that Shankar's service is not just restricted to a particular religion, caste or community. He is different from other rich people. People become more selfish as their economic staus rises. Shankar as a child experienced a tough childhood.

He appreciated Shankar and called him a 'vishwa manava' as his thoughts go beyond all barriers of religion, caste etc. Incidentally he was born into the Mogaveera community.

Nadoja G Shankar distributed grants to more than 1000 patients suffering from cancer and kidney problems and also to the special schools, old age homes and orphanages.

Dr P V Bhandhary, director A V Baliga Hospital Udupi, Dr Rohanchandra Shetty, associate professor and chief, surgical onchology department, Father Muller Hospital Mangaluru, Dr Ravindra Prabhu, chief of Nephrology, KMC Manipal, Sachidananda of Rajiv Gandhi Health University, Bengaluru, Sadananda Balkur, president of Mogaveer Yuva Sanghatane, Udupi and others were present.

Shamili welcomed the gathering and Ashritha proposed the vote of thanks.
