'Beef festival' in Kerala college: Disciplinary action on 10 students

Kottayam, Oct 7 (PTI): Authorities of a prestigious college of Kerala today decided to initiate disciplinary action against 10 students for conducting a beef festival inside the campus to protest against the lynching of a man in Uttar Pradesh's Dadri over rumours of eating beef.

Authorities of CMS College, Kottayam, said action has been initiated against the students, all activists of Students Federation of India (SFI), the students wing of CPI(M), for going ahead with the beef festival in the campus, "violating" college discipline.

The Principal had denied permission to SFI to conduct the beef festival as he apprehended that such an action might lead to clashes with rival student organisations like ABVP, college authorities said.

They alleged that SFI activists pushed the Principal as he tried to stop them from distributing beef curry at 1 PM. The curry brought to the campus to be distributed to students splashed all over the Principal in the melee, they said.

Ten students have been identified in connection with the incident and they will face disciplinary action including suspension, College authorities said.

Former President of India K R Narayanan is the alumni of Kerala's one of the college founded in 1817 by the Church Missionary Society of England.

SFI said the beef festival was organised in the college campus to protest against the lynching of a man in Dadri over rumours of eating beef and to express solidarity with a similar attempt in Sree Kerala Varma College in Thrissur.

Six students of Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur, allegedly involved in violence following a 'beef festival' conducted in the college campus were suspended on Monday.

All of them are activists of SFI.

The College management has initiated against a woman lecturer who had supported the students who conducted the 'beef festival' in the campus of its college in Thrissur.

Deepa Nisanth, a faculty of the college, who supported the students' action on social media said, she stick to the Facebook post supporting the beef festival.

Management should not impose their communal decisions on innocent students under the guise of flouting norms. Students should be taught to grow in an environment devoid of caste, class, communal consciousness and to respect the religious practices and sentiments of all religions. This Management which promote such an environment of hatred against other societal practices are harmful to the society and the nation. The Education department should intervene and dissolve the Governing body and nominate a board with people qualified and who promote communal harmony, peace and love in the society. This is clear case of a mute government, education department, UGC officials who are making a mockery of the Constitution of India by their silence.

The President of India has called to keep calm and to sustain peaceful atmosphere in such lynching cases.

The P.F.I students are going beyond its capacity. Hold your horse.

What due respect and sentiment are you talking about? Due respect is being given, but these cow bhakts are only exaggerating the issue. Their mindset is that what they do and say is 100% correct and what the other communities say and do is all wrong. This type of tactic is only to divert peoples mind from real and greater issues.

The first college started in India was the CMS college at Kottayam by the Church Missionary Society and the events are shedding light for a nationwide challenge challenging the BJP central Government and his tightlipped deity leader Mr. Modi. The whole nation has been caught up in a severe trap under the BJP Government which is pushing India back to the 10th century. Can that be practical in the 21st century?

The BJP was trying to open their doors using the Hindu religious card in Kerala but the Nair Service Society has shown a red flag. Then BJP was courting the SNDP, but its leader said that " I eat beef and will eat beef".

Those States like Goa, the BJP CM has already said that they are not going to listen to the holy beef issue there.

Now the national BJP wanted to ban the beef export, and the leading State of beef export, the holy State of Gujarat where the savior of India was born would be severely challenged.

How many millions are going to end up in the streets associated with the beef issue already the leather industry of India led by Tamil Nadu is slowing down since their main supply of leather was from Maharastra.

The holy beef will be teaching a lesson to the BJP Government before the end of this year.
The President of India signed the beef ban law at Maharastra and Hariyana, now lamenting about the Dadri tragedy. Mr. President, you didn't think properly about the ramification of that misguided signature to please the BJP and Mr. Modi. Wait and watch.

"Padmasree" from the Indian President who has signed the holy karma of signing the beef ban with severe prison term of 10 and 5 years in the States of Haryana and Maharastra.

I repeatedly wonder, why Mr. Modi and Arun Jaitley are visiting the U.S., the most sinful nation on earth through her over-consumption of the holy mother cow's meat. Mr. Modi won't allow even any kind of meat or liquor in his Boeing 747 royal travel.
