Ajman: GMU initiates new students at 'White Coat Ceremony'

Ajman, Oct 8: Gulf Medical University (GMU), the leading private medical university owned and operated by Thumbay Group formally opened its doors to new students of the academic year by initiating them into their respective medical courses at the 'White Coat Ceremony 2015' held at the university campus, Ajman on October 7.









Thumbay Moideen, founder president and chairman of the board of governors of Gulf Medical University was chief guest at the function. The function was attended by GMU Provost prof Gita Ashok Raj, Akbar Moideen Thumbay, director of healthcare division of Thumbay Group, deans of colleges and members of the administrative team of Thumbay Group.

GMU Provost prof Gita Ashok Raj delivered the welcome address. She said that the White Coat Ceremony was held every year to formally welcome new students and to demonstrate GMU’s committment to humanism and professionalism, to the students and to the medical community at large. She stressed the importance of the ceremony and said that with it would begin a whole new chapter in the lives of the students. “Believe in yourselves, follow your hearts and reach for the stars,” she exhorted the students.

Prof Gita Ashok Raj administered the GMU Honour Code to the new students. In all, 189 students from 31 nationalities, belonging to GMU’s College of Medicine (MBBS and BBMS courses), College of Allied Health Sciences (BPT and BHS courses) and College of Pharmacy (Pharm D course) donned the white coats in this year’s ceremony. The function was held in the presence of a large gathering of GMU students, faculty and staff of GMU and families of the new students.
