Mangaluru: Basel Mission marks bicentenary with international seminar

Mangaluru, Oct 9: The Church of South India (CSI) - Karnataka Southern Diocese on Thursday October 8 celebrated the bicentenary of the founding of the Basel Mission in 1815 by organizing an international seminar on the theme 'Mission Moves' at Karnataka Theological College.

The celebration began with a thanksgiving service at the CSI Shanthi Cathedral. Rev Dr G Dyvasirvadam, moderator, Church of South India; Rev Dr D Rathanakar Sadananda, general secretary, Church of South India; Rev Dr Honey Cabral, principal KTC were present in the worship service. Rev Dr C L Furtado, bishop emeritus, Church of South India - Karnataka Southern Diocese (CSI-KSD) delivered the message.

The international seminar was later inaugurated by Rev Dr G Dyvasirvadam at the Bishop Jathanna auditorium, KACES Campus. He also delivered the inaugural address.

Rev Mohan Manoraj, Bishop CSI KSD welcomed the gathering. Guests from the Evagelical Mission in Solidarity, (EMS) Germany Dr Matthias Kreplin, Rev Juergen Reichel, Klaus Reith, Michael Graebech, Rev Dr Royce Manoj Victor, Liason officer and the members of the EMS Study team Lisbon Bagana (Malaysia); Hans Lehmann (Germany); Ralf Rohrbach-koop (Germany) Christiane Robler (Germany) Ni Made Rai Margarita Sumami (Indonesia) Riley Edwards (Germany) were felicitated along with the CSI Synod Mission Department director Rev Chirstopher Vijayan, by Rev Mohan Manoraj, Bishop CSI KSD, Rev Devakumar K P, vice-president CSI-KSD, V Isaac Vijayashekar, secretary CSI-KSD, Udayaraj Kaunds, treasurer CSI-KSD, the officers of the CSI Karnataka Southern Diocese.

Ivan D’Souza, MLC brought greetings on behalf of the government of Karnataka and lauded the contribution of the Basel Mission to the society at large.

V Isaac Vijayashekar, secretary, CSI-KSD, delivered the vote of the thanks.

Rev Dr D Rathanakar Sadananda and Rev Jürgen Reichel made the theme presentation and various topics such as 'Education and healing ministry'; 'Industry, technology, science and environment; 'Historical importance and research possibilities; 'Towards a just society; 'Literature, journalism and publication' will be addressed during this two-day international seminar.

The event will culminate on Friday October 9.
