Udupi, Oct 9: Members of the Udupi district unit of BJP’s Mahila Morcha staged a protest near Clock Tower, Udupi on Thursday October 8, condemning the gang rape of a call center employee in Bengaluru.

Sheela K Shetty, president, Udupi Mahila Morcha, addressing the protestors, said, “If there is no security in the capital of Karnataka, what about the situation in remote areas? Shortage of electricity is another reason for increase in rape cases. The state is in a chaotic situation. There is no safety for girls and all live in a fearful atmosphere. The Congress has no moral right to rule.”

State secretary Shyamala Kundar, condemning the heinous incidents in the state, said, “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has given ‘Pratibhatana (protest) Bhagya’. During his term, girls have no protection. Give tough punishment to the accused because laxity in the law has made them fearless. So, criminals are more actively indulging in incidents of sexual harassment.”

Githanjali Suvarna complained, “The state government is displaying an irresponsible attitude. If it continues, the party will protest in a huge way.”

Sandhya Ramesh, Rashmitha Balakrishna Shetty, Geetha Ravi Shet, Veena S Shetty, and Yashpal Suvarna were present.
